(d) Explain the constant current control mechanism of HVDC transmission
line. Draw and explain the actual control of individual and combined
characteristics of a converter.

4. (a) What are the factors that influence conduction in pure liquid dielectrics [6+4+4=14]
and commercial liquid dielectrics? Explain the mechanism of purification
of the liquid dielectrics with neat sketch.
(b) What is partial discharge in electrical system? How they are classified?
Describe briefly the positive and negative corona phenomena.
(c) With the neat diagram explain the principle of operation of a series
resonant circuit for generating high ac test voltages. Why are recommend
tolerances in wave-front and wave-tail times of Impulse generator?
