factors which affect breakdown of gases? Write down the application of [5+5=10]
breakdown phenomena.
b) Why only the single method of Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) is not suitable
for identifying the incipient fault in transformer? Explain what are the
method is used for DGA?

4. a) What is apparent charge in relation to partial discharges? Explain how the

detection and measurement of partial discharge is performed as per IEC [3+3+4=10]
60270.
b) A 12 stage impulse generator has 0.126μF capacitors. The wave front and
wave tail resistances connected are 800Ω and 5000Ω respectively. If the
load capacitor is 1000pF, find the front and tail times of the impulse wave
produced?
c) Discuss various factors which affect breakdown of solid dielectrics.
