INTRODUCTION:
1. Attention Getter: Hi everyone, have you ever thought about when you grow up and make all
your own decisions, what will you prioritize most in life? For me, it's about choosing where I
will live and work in the future. What that place will look like depends on one's point of view,
right?
2. Reveal Topic: Hence, I'll be talking about whether to live and work in the big city or the
countryside.
3. How topic relates to audience: I'm sure that our lives are dependent on the place where we live
and work in. I bet all of us will suffer profoundly on our choice of whereabouts. Although this can be
controversial, I figure out living in the city is a wonderful thing and I prefer living in the city over the
countryside. While others disagree and think the countryside is the best place to live.
4. Preview of main points: Therefore, today we'll discuss about the advantages and disadvantages of
living in the city and the countryside.

II. BODY:
( CONNECTIVE: The first thing that I would like you to know about the first advantage of living in a big
city)

Thương: There are a lot of job opportunities and good education is waiting for us in the city rather
than in the countryside.
1. Better job oppotunities:
– The big city is an ideal place to develop career. Because this is the place where many companies
and big factories are gathered in the production and exchange of goods of the whole country.
Therefore, there will be a variety of job opportunities for everyone here.
2. Education:
– Besides that, the big city concentrates many highly prestigious universities. Moreover, the
modern facilities and learning equipment will help us cultivate knowledge in the best way. From
there, it's as a foundation for intellectual development and future career for us.

Debate of Khoa:
- Competition for jobs is fiercer (is really a serious fight). When newcomers move to the area,
they’re likely to move to the city.
- The anonymity can be suffocating and you can become into scarying. (ngột ngạt)
- The rat race. (sự bon chen – thường nc về cơm áo gạo tiền)
- (là dkien để những người trẻ mở rộng mối quan hệ, từ đó có thêm nhiều cơ hội để nâng cao học vấn
và đạt thành công trong công việc)
- Cities are inherently expensive. Besides the higher cost of living, something happens whenever I find
myself in a city: I spend more money. I don’t even know where it goes. It just….goes.
- The cost of accommodations is considerably higher. Even hovels (túp lều = old house) come at a
premium.
Debate of Thương:
- I agree with you that when you live in a big city, you also have to pay for compulsory expenses such
as electricity, water, gas, insurance, taxes and so on. And this cost is often higher than in the
countryside.
- This is also one of the great pressures we face when living in a big city besides the advantages we
already have.

( CONNECTIVE: On the other hand, one of the other advantages that I am very interested in is in terms
of health and quality of life every day).
Main point 2: And what I want to mention is the indispensable benefit of healthcare, infrastructure,
as well as, customer service in big cities.
1. Medical care
There are many large hospitals with modern and advanced medical equipment in big cities so that
we can follow health conditions proactively and promptly treat in emergencies. So, Do you think
about this idea?

Debate of Khoa:
=> pollution. Đáp ứng nhiều bệnh nhân => gây tắc đường (traffic jam).
Debate of Thương:
I totally agree with you that too many people gather in the city for medical treatment is not good. It
will cause traffic jams and hospitals will be overwhelmed with patients. It won’t guarantee the
quality of hospitals and healthcare in general.
I think the government should invest more in the quality of hospital facilities as well as a team of
highly qualified medical staff in rural hospitals to overcome this situation in the future.
2. Infracstrutre – Service
- Additionally, as more people gather in the city, it leads to the development of infrastructure and
services. Many shopping malls, restaurants, and beauty salons are typically opened to serve the
entertainment needs of the people.
- Moreover, roads and large bridges are built flat and firmly. Transportation system in the city is more
modern and convenient than the countryside. There are many buses in a day, making it easier to
move between places. For example, there is a bus route in District 1 that specializes in promoting
tourists.

- Debate of Khoa: Totally agree

- In addition, you must be so comfortable with online booking service. For ex: hotline booking in
restaurant, order food by applications.
- Furthermore, if you need to transport the goods, instead of spending time doing it yourself, there is
a transportation service to do it for you with flexible time and reasonable cost.

Debate of Khoa:
Peace and quiet. Real quiet. Hearing a car – a single car – drive by within a kilometer is a noticeable
event.
Fresh air, blue skies, and way healthier living.
Locking your doors is entirely optional. (security is good)
People work together and look out for one another, creating a greater sense of community.
Living in the country can make you stronger and more independent as a person.
III. CONCLUSION:
1. Reinforce the central idea: We’ve shown you the pros and cons of living in city and country.

2. Signal the end of the speech: This topic, of course, has far more to it than the amount of time we
have for it today. But I would like to conclude by saying that no matter where you live, the most
important thing is that it depends on each individual's outlook on life. It may be good for one
person but not good for another. Therefore, if you have other ideas, you can share them.
