the corresponding column of your answer.

Situation Inquiry Research

A person wants to know the occupant of one condominium.
A student wants to know the medicinal effects of guava
leaves.
Mr. Cruz wants to know the technique to make his electric fan
function instantly.
Professor Gomez wants to discover the impact of social
networking on his students’ learning abilities.

could increase daily sales.

III. READING

INQURY VS. RESEARCH

 Inquiry can be described simply as the process of finding answers to questions.

The main aim of an inquiry is to solve problems, resolve doubts, or augment
knowledge.
 Research is a careful study conducted using a systematic approach and scientific
methods. A research study typically involves several components: abstract,
introduction, literature review, research design and method, results and
analysis, conclusion, bibliography.
 In brief, an inquiry is a process of finding answers to questions and may involve
different procedures, epically according to disciplines. Research, on the other
hand, is the formal and systematic investigation and study of materials and
sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.
 The main difference between inquiry and research is that inquires may be less
formal and systematic than research studies and therefore easier to conduct.

NATURE OF INQUIRY AND RESEARCH

 People tends to seek knowledge not just to store in the brain but to acquire
knowledge for deeper understanding of the world – an understanding that
inspires you to create, construct, or produce things for the betterment of all
kinds of life.
 Inquiry is a term which is synonymous to investigation. When people inquire or
investigate, people tends to ask question to probe or examine something.

 By doing investigation, people use their higher-order thinking strategies (HOTS)

of inferential, analytical, critical, creative and beyond such objective of your
inquiry.
 Thinking is a manner that makes you ask open-ended questions to elicit views,
opinions and beliefs of others in relation to research
 In a way, Inquiry is the basic foundation of research.

CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH

 Research is a scientific, experimental or inductive manner of thinking. It starts

from particular to complex ideas.
 Research is executed by varied thinking acts that range from lower-Order
Thinking Strategies to Higher-order thinking strategies reflected by this
activities.

a. Identifying the topic or problem

b. Gathering data
c. Making theories
d. Formulating hypotheses
e. Analyzing Data
f. Drawing Conclusions

 In Practical Research 1, there are descriptive words that characterize research in

cognitively driven terms such as:

a. Empirical
b. Logical
c. Cyclical
d. Analytical
e. Critical
f. Methodical
g. Replicable

 All data in a research does not come from the researcher itself but also from
other sources such as books, people, artworks and many more. Hence, one
cardinal rule in research is to give credit to these people whom you derive your
data. It is not only thanking the authors of their contribution but also
establishing the validity and reliability of the finding of your research will be
serve as an instrument to world progress. (Mujis 2011; Ransme 2012)

METHODS OF RESEARCH

 A researcher must think logically or systematically.

 There are 2 approaches of a researcher;

SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL MODULE
1ST SEMESTER SY 2022-2023
SUBJECT: PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2

a. Inductive thinking makes you ponder on specific ideas first to complex

concepts such as conclusions and generalization.
b. Deductive thinking lets you start from forming generalizations to examining
details of subject matter.
 In choosing an approach, methods, and types of research, it depends on your
topic and purpose. (Gray 2011; Sharp 2012)

Inquiry vis-à-vis Research

 Both Inquiry and Research makes you learn something by encouraging you to
formulate questions to exact information that you want to discover about the
object of your curiosity.
 Inquiry follows a scientific procedure of discovering the truth. (Goodwin 2014;
Lapan 2012)
 Research includes complex act of investigation. (Goodwin 2014; Lapan 2012)
