Argumentative Essay

“How come when it’s us, it’s an abortion, and when it’s a chicken, it’s an omelette?”
― George Carlin

Many persons oppose abortion and feel it should be banned, while many others support
abortion rights and oppose making it illegal. I don't care if you don't like abortion and would
never have one yourself, but saying it should be prohibited because of YOUR religious views is
selfish and immoral.

There are several faiths practiced in the United States, each with its own set of beliefs.

Yes, there are numerous faiths in the Nation, but there are also many atheists and agnostics.
Why should religious views be used to justify anything above the opinions of non-religious
people? Religious beliefs are not a legitimate rationale for making anything unlawful.

In general, Christians think that abortion is murder and that it should be prohibited.

Why, once again, does the Christian viewpoint have anything to do with laws? If your religious
beliefs hold that abortion is wrong, you should never have one. It is your option whether or not
to have an abortion, but you cannot impose your own thoughts and viewpoints on others. It's OK
to claim you can't do something because of your religious beliefs, but it's not right to tell
someone else can't because of theirs. Religion does not make you superior, nor does it give you
the authority to impose restrictions on others. In fact, many atheists despise theists for using
their faith to dominate others.

Is it subjectively selfish for Christians to campaign for federal legislation that applies to everyone
based on their own beliefs?

It is self-serving for Christians to believe that legislation should be based on their beliefs. Their
views are no better than those of any other group, and they have the hubris to believe that their
ideas should be pushed on others. Our nation was designed to keep religion and state distinct,
but that has not been the case. We already have laws in existence that are simply based on
religious beliefs, which is too restrictive. Your opinions will not be shared by everyone, but that
is why they are PERSONAL BELIEFS. If you want to spread the word about not having an
abortion or refusing to have one, that is YOUR CHOICE; but, you have no right to take that
choice away from someone just because you don't agree with the option they may select.
China had a regulation that said that families may only have a specific number of children, and it
was unlawful to have more children than the government permitted. They took away people's
freedom of choice and pushed their goals, needs, and beliefs on those who just wished to have
a bigger family or who became pregnant again by mistake. And if that isn't enough, consider
how you would feel if a doctor forced you to have an abortion because of a law or because your
kid wouldn't survive anyhow. If you would be unhappy or furious if your right to choose whether
or not to have an abortion was taken away from you, you should not do the same to someone
else.

If one thinks that abortion is a sin, one should not consider sex to be a taboo. As it is, the world
is plagued by hunger, poverty, a scarcity of resources, overcrowding, and pollution, with the root
cause of all of these issues being a lack of information about sex and abortion taboos. However,
no matter what is done to eliminate the taboo around abortion, some people's mind processes
will never alter. The best anybody can do to legalize abortion is lower death rates and promote
safe abortion techniques.
