ACTIVITY 2: DEFINITION OF TERMS:
What is truth and why is it important?
1. proposition-is a statement about the world
or reality. It may or may not carry truth.
2. Knowledge is the clear awareness and
understanding of something. It is the product
of questions that allow for clear answers
provided by facts.
3. Facts are propositions or statements which
are observed to be real or truthful.
4. Claim is a statement that is not evidently or
immediately known to be true. This means that
any claim can be proven by verification and
experimentation.
Truthful statements can be considered as
based on facts. Science considers truth as
something observable and empirical. – by

Three Distinction of opinion and truth:
1. Belief and Reality Distinction
Reality is unarguably seen and felt by the human
senses. Whereas belief is a by-product or a
manifestation of any reality.
For example: Your reality right now is your being a
student enrolled in a certain curriculum. There can
be several beliefs system that can thrive out from
that reality: Finishing academic year with either
outstanding grades or just passing remarks.
Graduating with honors or graduating simply as an
ordinary graduate.
2. Subjective and Objective Distinction
subjective is when you rely so much on your
perception as dictated by your mind. Objectively
that means there are reasons outside of the mind
that make the thing true.

2. What are the qualifying words to
identify opinions from truth?
Opinion: is a belief, impression, or
judgment about something by not
necessarily based on fact. - it prevails
personal view of a person.
Truth: - it is something that has been
proven by facts or sincerity. - in science,
truth is based on facts-as something that is
observable - in philosophy, truth is
considered as a kind of quality and value.

3. Descriptive and Normative Distinction
Descriptive simply narrates what happened,
while Normative evaluates the events
according to the perspective of people, a
certain culture and law.
ACTIVITY 2: How do we know if something is
true?
Ways on determining the truth.
1. A belief is true if it can be justified or proven
through the use of one’s senses.
Ex. 1. Ana is the only beautiful classmate that I have.
Prove that Ana is beautiful by writing or recitation.
2. B. I am a Filipino. How will you prove that you are a
Filipino? Answer that in just one sentence.

5. What is relativism?
Philosophical concepts which contend
that there are no absolute truths. An
idea or principle is only true within a

and history. What a person
considers true may be influenced
by historical developments and
social struggles.
