Introduction

In this discussion assignment two, I will be evaluating the vision, mission and/or goal statements of
Tata Group, A company chosen with regards to the triple bottom line. Before getting into the
discussion proper, let us define some basic concepts

A vision is a vivid mental image of what you want your business to be at some point in the future,
based on your goals and aspirations. Having a vision will give your business a clear focus, and can
stop you from heading in the wrong direction (Business Queensland, n.d). A mission is simple the
reason for the company’s existence.

A mission statement explains the company's culture, values, and ethics. A goal statement is what
you want to achieve. A goal statement is a milestone in a strategy implementation process, ‘‘to
create a sustainable, profitable value chain by providing the best services to all stakeholders”.

Kelsey (n.d). Stated that bottom line is a sustainable concept that measures the company’s success
in three key areas; profit, planet and the people. The triple bottom line enables posits firms to
commit to measuring their social and environmental impact. In addition to their financial
performance, rather than solely focusing on generating profit, or the standard.

Founded by Jamsetji Tata in 1868, the Tata group is a global enterprise headquartered in India. The
group operates in more than 100 countries across six continents with a mission 'To improve the
quality of life of the communities we serve globally, through long-term stakeholder value creation
based on Leadership with Trust'.

The Vision of the company is to aspire to be the global steel industry benchmark for Value Creation
and Corporate Citizenship (Tata (n.d).

The main Goal of Tata Group is to improve quality life of communities. And to do this they strive for
leadership and global competitiveness in all the business sectors where they operate (IPL Essay, n.d).

Sixty-six per cent of the equity of Tata Sons, the promoter holding company, is held by philanthropic
trusts, thereby returning wealth to society. The Tata name has been respected in India for 150 years
for its adherence to strong values and business ethics. The companies of the Tata group employ the
best and finest, strengthened by a culture of ethics and integrity (Tata (n.d).

Now let us analyse Tata Group’s mission, vision and goal statements with regards to the triple
