TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

KERAFIX - P
Adhesive for outdoor ceramic tiles

DESCRIPTION AND SCOPE OF APPLICATION

Kerafix - P is a grey powder product based on hydraulic and polymer binders, stone
aggregates and specific additives.
It is used as a construction adhesive for bonding wall, floor and facade ceramic tiles
in internal and external conditions of exploitation, and it is also recommended for
bonding natural stone and siporex. Adequate surfaces for bonding are: concrete
surfaces (at least two months old), cement lime mortars (at least a moth old) and
similar. Inadequate surfaces are: wood, metal and cement surfaces still containing
moisture.

PROCEDURE OF APPLICATION

Substrate preparation

The substrate for adhesive application must be mechanically stabile, clean, cracks
free, free of grease, dust, colours, wax and other dirt. Wet surfaces may cause
slower bonding of adhesive and substrate. When it comes to variations in levels of
horizontal surfaces, they must be levelled prior to application with the products from
our offer “PODOLIT“ (for thicknesses up to 5 mm) or “PODOLIT-D30“ (for
thicknesses from 4 to 30 mm). After PODOLIT is dried (10 to 30 days, depending on
layer thickness and temperature of drying), our product “KVARCNA PODLOGA“
can be applied as well (concentrated or diluted maximally 5 % with water). Following
24 hours of “KVARCNA PODLOGA“ drying (at t=20°C and relative humidity =
65%), the substrate is ready for application of Kerafix – P.

Product preparation and application

Mix the Kerafix - P 25 kg bag content into approximately 6 to 6.3 litters of water, i.e.
content of 5 kg bag mix into approximately 1.2 to 1.5 litters. Mix thoroughly with
slow-speed mixer until homogeneous, smooth mass is reached. Leave material for
at least 5 minutes to stand in container, than remix.

For better adhesive power, first apply thick layer of Kerafix - P on substrate using flat
side of trowel, and then apply desired thickness of Kerafix – P by using an
appropriate notched trowel.
Depth and width of notch depends on the ceramic tile. Ergo, if ceramic tile is of a
mid-size (sides between 10 and 20 cm), then depth and width of notches should be
from 4 to 6 mm. For ceramic tiles over 20 cm, depth and width of notches should be
larger and consequently for smaller tiles a notched trowel with smaller notches is to
be used. Tiles with a high absorption are to be water moistured due to better
bonding. When applying adhesive, a tile is to be pressed for total surface contact
with adhesive. Recommended is that bonding of adhesive to indoor ceramic tile is
min. 60 %, while for outdoor ceramic recommendation is min. 90%. In case a
surface film is formed on the adhesive, it is necessary to remove the same, re-apply
a new adhesive layer and then lay a tile on such adhesive. Bonding of ceramic tiles
may be with a contact of tiles or with joints, in which case plastic spacers are placed.
Once tiles are set, they can be adjusted, if change of their position is needed, within
time frame of 10 minutes. Product open time is approximately 4 hrs (t = 20°C and
relative humidity = 65%). Wall tiles joints can be filled in a desired colour after 12 -
16 hrs, and floor tiles joints after 24 hrs with our special sealant product “KERAFUG
– C“.
Floor base can be used for walking approximately 24 hours after setting. Total
drying out period, under the normal conditions, takes approximately 7 days.

Recommended weather conditions for laying are as follows:

 Air and substrate temperature from 5 °C to 30 °C
 Relative air humidity 65 %

NOTE: Works are to be carried out only when recommended weather conditions.
High relative humidity and low temperatures can slow down time of adhesive drying.
