• Delivered in online learning
• Conducted in a small group (10-11 students) → an instructor for each
group
• Using learning management system → Gamel
• Three steps in practical sessions

Session I : Literature Searching
• Learning Objectives:
1. Students can formulate the
clinical question or research
question using the PICO methods
to frame the answerable
question
2. Students can understand how to
find relevant articles journal to
answer the clinical/research
question
Session I : Literature Searching
• STEP 1: Asynchronous (pre-practicum)
• Students should log in to Gamel and learn the materials of “EBM and Critical
Appraisal Practical sessions”
• Watching a video on Gamel “Literature Searching: dr. Ajeng Viska Icanervilia,
MPH”

Session I : Literature Searching
• STEP 2: Synchronous (practical session) → 120 minutes (online)
• Prepare an online meeting → provided by CEBU administrator
• Do the pre-test of literature searching → link provided in Gamel
• Formulate a PICO and research question related to therapy
• Population (P): acute respiratory infection, pneumonia, urinary tract infection,
hypertension, diabetic mellitus, tuberculosis, malaria, acute gastroenteritis or diarrhea,
typhoid fever, asthma bronchial, scabies, rheumatoid arthritis, gastritis, etc
• Intervention (I): could be found from National Formulary 2020 or any relevant sources
• Comparison (C): could be placebo, no treatment, standard treatment or any relevant
comparison
• Outcomes (O): should be categorical and preferable dichotomous outcomes such as
cure, death, etc.
Session I : Literature Searching
• STEP 2: Synchronous (practical session) → 120 minutes (online)
• Do a literature searching using PubMed and find one article with Randomized
Controlled Trial (RCT) study
• Discuss the decision of choosing article with the instructor
• Complete the student worksheet and ask the signature of the instructors
• Submit the article and the student worksheet into the Gamel before the due
date

• STEP 1: Asynchronous (pre-practicum)
• Students should login to Gamel and learn the materials of “EBM and Critical
Appraisal Practical sessions”
• Watching videos in Gamel:
• Critical appraisal on diagnosis: dr. Andaru Dahesihdewi, Sp.PK(K)
• Critical appraisal on therapy: dr. Jarir At Thobari, Ph.D
• Download and read the materials of critical appraisal
• Appraise the articles using Appraisal Worksheet (Diagnostic and Therapeutic
study) → CEBM Oxford checklist
• Pre-practicum assignment: each student should only appraise one article that
will be assigned based on the student list number in the group (student listed
no.1 will do the article no.1, etc.)

• STEP 2: Synchronous (practical session) → 120 minutes (online)
• Prepare an online meeting with your instructor
• Do the pre-test of critical appraisal (provided in Gamel)
• Prepare and present your pre-practicum assignment to the instructor
• Discussion of critical appraisal results with your instructor
• The completed Appraisal Worksheet should be submitted to Gamel before
the due date

• Final score for EBM and CA practical
session will be averaged from all three
