Generator Inspection Technical Required (80MW)

1. Pre-shutdown checks
The following will be checked and recorded prior to the shutdown;
 Check double insulated bearings;
 Recurring problems and discrepancies review;
 Present annunciator drops; and
 Operating data;

2. Shutting down of units


Isolation, lock out/ tag out activities, deactivate the fire protection system, iso late
electric power system, isolate field instruments and blank-off fuel lines.
3. Remove lagging
 Upper end shield lagging
 Upper cooler dome lagging
4. Disassembly
 Remove instrumentation/lighting/motors;
 Remove collector compartment instrumentation as required;
 Remove collector compartment lighting as required;
 Remove load compartment instrumentation as required;
 Disassemble journal bearings, visually inspect, record clearances and
condition, including ball seat contract and pinch cheeks;
 Disassemble oil deflectors and hydrogen seals;
 Disassemble end shield piping;
 Disassemble/remove collector brush holder rigging;
 Remove end shields and generator field; and
 Remove stator cooler heads;

5. Inspection
 All results will be recorded on standard inspection forms
 Visually inspect/ clean
i. Bearings;
ii. Oil deflectors
iii. Hydrogen seals;
iv. Coolers;
v. Generator field; and
vi. Stator windings;

6. Electrical tests
a) Stator
i. 10-minute insulation resistance with polarization index;
ii. Winding copper resistance;
iii. RTD resistance check and insulation resistance; and
iv. DC leakage;
b) Field:
i. 10-minute insulation resistance with polarization index;
ii. Winding copper resistance; and
iii. AC impedance test;

7. Parts to be replaced by Contractor


Worn-out parts including all consumables.
8. Visual Inspection
 Stator, including high voltage bushings;
 Field; and
 Excitation equipment;

9. Assemble generator
 Install stator cooler heads;
 Generator field;
 Hydrogen seals;
 Bearings;
 Oil deflectors;
 End shields; and
 Collector brush rigging;
10.Assemble lagging
 Upper end shield lagging; and
 Stator cooler dome lagging

11.Pre-start and operational checks


 Check slow roll operation
 Remove tag out, lock out; reactivate the fire protection system; reactivate
electric power system; reactivate field instrumentation; remove blank-off
fuel lines, etc.;
 Carry out instrumentation functional check; Check piping for leaks;
auxiliary system loop check;
 Start up the unit and record and anlyze the operating parameters;
 Submit with comments and observations the post; and
 Submit shutdown inspection report one (1) month after the shutdown
