Brief Lesson Description:
During the course of this lesson, students will act as genetic counselors This lecture and activity provide
information on genetic traits and heredity. It can be used by itself or to provide background information for
the accompanying DNA extraction and genetics lectures and activities. Also Students learn about
mutations to both DNA and chromosomes, and uncontrolled changes to the genetic code such as protiens.

▪ explain how mutation may cause changes to the structure and function of protein;
▪ differentiate the four types of mutation; and
▪ Discuss some syndromes or defects that are caused by genetic mutation.
