Case Study (Single & Multiple)
 What is a Case Study (Single & Multiple)

 A multiple-case study examines the same phenomenon using two or more instances or
replications across the cases. The research design separates single-case studies from
multiple-case studies, yet both fall under the same methodological umbrella (Yin, 2017).
 What is a Case Study (Single & Multiple)
 Purpose of Case Study (Single & Multiple)

A case study is a type of research methodology that

produces a thorough, multifaceted knowledge of a
complicated problem in its actual setting. It is a well-
known research strategy that is widely applied in a
range of fields, especially the social sciences.
 Uses of Case Study (Single & Multiple)

Large group studies like randomized clinical trials can be effectively replaced by single-case research. Repeated
measurements and the modification of an independent variable are used in single-case studies. A study
methodology known as "multiple-case design" examines a number of instrumental, constrained situations while
utilizing various data gathering techniques. Due to the fact that this research approach offers more thorough
descriptions and explanations of the phenomena or issue, it is more effective than single-case designs.
 Importance of Case Study (Single & Multiple)

Single instances provide in-depth investigation of

phenomena for the purpose of providing extensive
description and comprehension. A single instance may
also be utilized as a pilot study for a research project
that calls for several examples, particularly if the
investigation is exploratory in character.
 Advantages of Application of Case Study (Single &
Multiple)

As previously said, there is still a lack of agreement

among authors of the broader social scientific literature
about the fundamental ideas and goals of case study
research, as well as its benefits and drawbacks. This
essay offers Bennett and Elman's (2010) more discipline-
specific view of modern case study methodologies as an
analytical framework since it is focused on the specific
subfield of International Relations.
 Limitations of Case Study (Single & Multiple)

It limits the research's scope because the findings are not generalizable
and are restricted to one person or group of people. Therefore, it is
challenging to generalize the findings.
 Limitations of Case Study (Single & Multiple)

In many instances, the term "case study" has evolved to mean "freeform research
where anything goes." Because there are so few methodological rules, according to Yin
(2009: 14–15), the lack of systematic case study research techniques has historically
been the biggest problem.
 Illustrations/Examples of Case Study (Single &
Multiple)

An illustrated case study will look at a complicated situation to make it

easier for others to comprehend. For instance, a case study of a veteran
with PTSD may be utilized to better understand what veterans go
through for new therapists.
