Part five, Significance of the study, deals with the

benefits may be derived from the conduct of the study.

Part six, Definition terms, gives the conceptual and

operational meaning of important words used in the study

Part seven, Delimitations of the study, specifies the scope

and the coverage of this research.

Background of the Study

Career choice is one of the most crucial problem of

many individual in this modern world that has to contend

with. One’s choice for vocation or career should ideally be

conditioned by one preference based on criteria or an

assessment of one’s capabilities interest and aptitude

(Azucena et. Al,2002).

Senior high school (SHS) covers the last two year of the

k to 12 program and includes 11 and 12. In SHS, students

will go through a core curriculum and subjects under a track

of their choice.

Senior high school is two years of specialized upper

secondary education, student may choose a specialization

based on aptitude, interest and school capacity. The choice

of career track will define the contend of the subject, a

student will take a grade 11 and 12.

It is necessary that the youth for today’s generation

must be careful and wise in choosing strand that leads to

their career or vocation because it will determine the

success for the next stages of his/her life and also measure

one’s interest intelligence and aptitude. A choice and

compasses variety of possible pattern of lifestyle. It is a

way of life of what a person chooses, he/she select his/her

life.

A wrong choice may result to failure and dropout, and

therefore a waste of time, money and effort. Considering the

cost of education and the element involved, it is a must for

a student to carefully assess and understand the different

factor necessary in choosing their strand that leads to

their desired career. Student are in trouble in choosing

their career most likely their decisions are influenced by

some factors (Hewitt, 2010), must people be influenced by

careers that their parents favor. On the other hand, the

study of (Natalie 2006) disclosed that adolescent’s own

aspiration is influenced by their parent’s aspiration, or

expectations. He further opined that children may choose

what their parents desire simply to please them in the same

vein, the refereed decision on career choice is influence by

political and economic consideration, previous way

experience and the influence of key individual in their

lives.

Factors should be taken in the consideration such the

multiple intelligences in choosing strand to purse in senior

high. Multiple intelligence emphasizes that a person could

have three or more intelligences which may help to

understand what area they are good at. To avoid career

mismatched, determining multiple intelligences could be a

big help.

To help children see the spectrum of occupation

related to each of the intelligence then they can begin

making their own decision about what feels right and what

doesn’t fit. Understanding oneself such as knowing the

multiple intelligences and their relationship to the career

choice will successfully help students to deal with the

challenges that lies ahead.

Theoretical Framework

This study will be anchored on the Super’s

Developmental Self-Concept Theory by Donald Super. Donald

Super built his developmental theory on the idea that your

view of yourself changes. Time and experience help shape the

way a person values their career and the goals they set.

This theory defines a “career” as the entire lifetime of a

person. Donald Super influenced the idea that developing a

sense of self and realize that you change over time is

important when planning your career.

Super argues that occupational preferences and

competencies, along with an individual’s life situations,

all change with time and experience. Super developed the

concept of vocational maturity, which may or may not

correspond to chronological age: people cycle through each

of these stages when they go through career transitions.

Figure I show the paradigm of the study as can be seen

from the research paradigm; the dependents variables that

will be considered in this research are the factor affecting

preferred strand of junior high school students’ stand. The

independents variables that will be considered in this

research as their gender, economic status, desired course in

college, and Family’s occupational background.

Statement of the Problem

This research study was conducted to establish

information on the decision-making analysis of factors

affecting Junior High School of IKGCA in choosing their

strand.

Research questions were raised by the researcher and

specifically, it tried to give answer to the following

question:

1. What is factor affecting the preferred strand of Grade

10 students when taken as a whole as to (a) gender,

(b)economic status, (c) desired course in college and

(d) family’s occupational background?

2. Are there significant differences in the factor

affecting the factor affecting the preferred strand of

Grade 10 students when taken as a whole and classified

as to (a) gender, (b)economic status, (c) desired

course in college and (d) family’s occupational

background?

Hypothesis

Based on the aforementioned problems, the hypothesis was

tested:

1. There is no significant differences in the factor

affecting the preferred strand of Grade 10 students

when taken as a whole and classified as to (a) gender,

(b) economic status, (c) desired course in college and

(d) family’s occupational background.

Significance of the Study

The researchers believed that the result of this study

will benefit the following person or group of persons:

To the students. This research will give them awareness

of what should be the correct mindset in choosing the

strand. That will lead to the right course in college and

will help to avoid job mismatch in the future.

To the parents. This research will be helpful to them.

Looking in background achievement for them to guide their

child in choosing a strand. Furthermore, it will give

awareness to the parent that they should guide and examine

the preferred strand of their children based on their

interest and capacity.

In this study, it refers to the desire course in

college. It is classified into licensed professional

courses (degree with licensed) and unlicensed professional

Delimitations of the study

This study was conducted to determine the factors that

affect the preferred strand of grade 10 students in IKGCA.

It also tried to ascertain the differences in the factor

affecting preferred strand of students when classified to

certain categories.

The respondents of the study will be limited only to

the purposely selected grade 10 students of Iloilo King of

Glory Christian Academy Inc. enrolled in S.Y 2020-2021.

There were total population of 54 Grade 10 students grouped

as 10-A and 10-B. The Slovin’s formula was used to

11

determine the sample size. Slovins’s formula is used to

calculate an appropriate sample size from a population

formula/). The sample size was drawn through a stratified

random sampling.

This study utilized a questionnaire personally

constructed checklist to determine the factors that affect

the preferred strand of the respondents. The questionnaire

has undergone the validity and reliability testing.

The study utilized a descriptive type of research

employing to factor affecting preferred strand of Grade 10

students as the dependent variables which will be confined

to five areas namely: Parent Favor, Own desire, Economic

Consideration, Peer Influence and Family’s Occupational

backgroundAnd Preferred strand also as the dependent

variables which will be confined to five areas namely:

HUMSS, STEM, TVL (ICT/HE), ABM, and undecided.

The research instrument that will be used to gather

the necessary data needed for the pursuit of the study is a

questionnaire which will be personally constructed by the

researchers. It will undergo a reliability testing to ensure

its validity. The questionnaire will be submitted to the

panel for content and appropriateness. Options like revise,

reject and accept will be the feedback from the panel.

The data that will be gathered in this study will be

subjected to computer processed statistics using the

Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software. The

statistical tools that will be used in the statistical

prescription of data will include frequency count,

percentage, mean, t-test and one-way analysis of variance.
