Introduction

The process of obtaining the body of information and skills that people are supposed to

possess is known as education. A good education fosters critical thinking and intellectual

curiosity, all of which contribute to lifelong learning. Today's education is judged on its efficacy,

quality, long-term viability, and relevance. Relevance of education entails meeting the needs of

students and society, as well as preparing graduates to compete internationally.

Making decisions is the most difficult thing a man must do, and it can lead to a dilemma

or misunderstanding. Everyone has the potential to make the best decision for themselves, but

their choices can also lead them down the wrong direction. Some first-year college students

have no idea what they want to major in. Many high school graduates know what they want to

study in college right now. In reality, they are asked what major they want for themselves when

they take entrance exams and first fill out enrolment forms.

What exactly is GAS? GAS (General Academics Strand) is the most versatile of the four

strands available in the Academic Track because students learn and experience something

from each one. GAS is primarily for students who are unsure about which strand to pursue.

This strand is specifically tailored for students who are still undecided about which

college course or degree they want to pursue. A student who completes this strand is eligible to

enroll in any college program. However, he or she would be expected to take certain subjects

that were not offered in Senior High but are required by a specific college as part of a bridging

program to determine his or her readiness in the field of study chosen.

This research paper will tackle the perceptions, reasons, and influences

of the Grade 11 students who chose General Academic Strand. Therefore, providing a clearer

grasp of the decisions made by the respondents upon choosing the said strand.

Statement of the Problem

This entitled Perceptions of Grade 11 students who Chose General Academic Strand

sought to answer the following questions:

1. How their demographic profile is described:

3. What were the other strands they consider as the second choice to enroll

in Senior High School?

Theoretical Framework

Careers are determined by an interaction between our personality and the environment

in John Holland's Theory of Career Choice. We want jobs with people like us. John

Holland's Theory of Career Choice (RIASEC) maintains that in choosing a career,

people prefer jobs where they can be around others who are like them. They search for

environments that will let them use their skills and abilities, and express their attitudes

and values, while taking on enjoyable problems and roles. Holland’s theory is centered

on the notion that most people fit into one of six personality types: Realistic,

Investigative, Artistic, Social, and Enterprising Conventional.

Scope and Delimitation

This study is conducted within the town of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija. The respondents

were the 50 current Grade 11 students from various Senior High School in the town.

Significance of the Study

This study will be beneficial to the following individuals:

Upcoming senior high school students - This study will assist them t0 understand the

perceptions of the senior high school students on choosing General Academic Strand.

Senior High School students - This will help them to really understand the influences and

reasons of oneself.

Senior High School Institutions - The study will serve as their basis regarding the perceptions

Of those who chose General Academic Strand.

Parents - They will be aware of the decision process made by their children.

Future researchers - The result of the study will give them a benchmark and guide.
