Phil-IRI Pre- test Guidelines

1. Provide set of copies of reading materials to teacher-examiner and pupil or student .

2. Let the learner read the selection silently before oral reading happens. This is done for the learner to
internalize/familiarize the text.

3. Afterwards, let the learner read the selection until he finishes. While the learner is reading, teacher
will identify reader’s miscues which will be tallied in the authentic revised Miscue form made. These are
the miscues: mispronunciation- maling bigkas; omission-pagkakaltas ; substitution-pagpapalit; insertion-
pagsisingit; repetition-pag-uulit; transposition-pagpapalit ng lugar; reversal-paglilipat.

4. When all of the learners in the class have finished reading, the teacher will compute the following and
after the computation he/she will indicate the results in the summary form .
a. Word Reading Formula
Total no. of words in a passage-miscues
_________________________________ X 100%
Total No. pf words in a passage

144
b. Word Reading Level of a learner=Instructional because 94% belongs to Instructional category .
Kindly look at the range below as guide:
97-100-Independent
90-96 Instructional
89 & below –Frustration

c. Comprehension Level coming from the responses of learner to questions:

Formula:

Perfect Score
So, 57% =Frustration (Indicate the figure and description in the revised form)

5. For elementary and secondary, submit the Filled –up Summary Form to the PSDS who will
consolidate the results by district separating elementary and secondary categories, then to the division
afterwards c/o Acero and Acle.

6. The PSDSs shall still submit the filled –up Summary Form in soft copy to Acero and Acle for English
and Filipino respectively.

7. GOOD LUCK!

Note: Reading level is always in the frustration if the comprehension is also frustration even if the Word
