Online Learning during the COVID-19 pandemic: increase or decrease

persistence in learning?

At this time the world is experiencing a condition where every human being
is limited in his movement. this happened because of the covid-19 pandemic or corona
virus, all aspects of life seemed to have stopped, including education in Indonesia. This
pandemic has forced students and teachers to change the education system from offline
to online. So, of course, all students and teachers prepare digital tools or media as a
means to continue the teaching and learning process. This is in accordance with the
Joint Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture, the Minister of Religion, the
Minister of Health, and the Minister of Home Affairs Number 01/KB/2020, 516,
HK.03.01/MENKES/363/2020, 440-882 of 2020 which explains how the guidelines
regarding learning process in this Covid-19 pandemic era. This regulation was made
after the corona virus attack that occurred in November 2019 in Wuhan, and then began
to enter Indonesia in February 2020.

In 2019, covid 19 first appeared and the state declared a pandemic, a

previously connected life without borders turned into a life with many social
boundaries. education is one aspect that is strictly limited. So far, online education
activities are the best alternative for the era of limiting the spread of the COVID-19
virus, online learning is a reality that students must accept. going to school in the
morning, playing with friends at school, exercising with friends, eating in the school
canteen, are just some of the normal forms of school activities that can only be
remembered. Although online learning is ultimately acceptable/normalized, it is an
illness such as stress, etc. For other people, despite various studies showing the stress
level of students during online learning, online learning is one way to increase
effectiveness by summarizing time and organizing challenges into positive findings.

In participating in online learning, perseverance and obstinacy are the most

important things. The application of online learning is an entry point for the widespread
use of technology, increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of learning. Situations
that require the use of technology in learning as a transition from traditional learning
require perseverance and persistence, this makes students persistent and diligent, how a

technology can make things easier may be very interesting for students. Face to face
online, online student exchange, online courses, this is the freedom to learn without
limits. Online learning that can be done anywhere and anytime makes time efficient, no
need to go from one place to another to attend a meeting, we can join anywhere.

Although it is considered effective, the fact is that online learning based on

Citra et al's research in the journal "The Effect of Academic Stress on Academic Help
Seeking on Unlam Psychology Students with a Low Grade Point Average" shows the
result that the higher the academic stress, then the lower the academic help seeking.

However, online learning can lead to increased student stress levels, this can
be the reason for decreased levels of focus, persistence and tenacity. Limited access to
the network, instructions that sometimes miscommunicate, anxiety, lack of
understanding of the material, learning tasks, high workloads, are the causes of
increased stress levels.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which limits the movement of every aspect of

life, requires education to make adjustments. Educational adjustments made by
changing learning methods from offline (traditional) to online certainly bring big
changes and consequences. Various obstacles ranging from the use of technology that
takes time to get used to, limited internet network, high workload, to decreased focus,
persistence, and persistence of students due to obstacles that occur out of control. Even
so, the change in learning methods to offline learning methods, increasing efficiency
and effectiveness in carrying out activities, easy access to meetings that can be done
anytime and anywhere, new technologies that must be learned, require students to be
persistent in order to capture material from their learning. While there are many positive
and negative consequences to online learning, what most people hope for is a return to
normalcy.
