WHY SHOULD YOU LEARN DIGITAL SKILLS??

Today, I want to leave you with something powerful.

I want to hit you with a reality you'll probably never recover

from, for the rest of your life!!

The reason I know this to be true is that for every single person I've talked
to like this, the result has been the exact same.

A 100% success rate!!

But first, I'm going to tell you a little story. 😁

Stay with me.

I remember sometime last year in 2021,

When I took my first ever Copywriting class.

Not only was this my first ever Copywriting class, it was also the first time in
my life that I decided to take online digital skills seriously.
I decided to start giving myself sense 😂
Before that time, I used to be a 100% focused student with one of the
highest first class CGPA in my set.

Amazing, right? 😉
Yeah, I'm awesome like that.

That was one of the things I was proud of,

so it didn't occur to me that I needed any skill.

I didn't know I was just a BIG GOAT!!! 😂

And I'm not talking about the "Greatest Of All Time"

I mean an actual Goat 🐐😂

Like the prodigal son, my senses returned back to me after I tried to do my
industrial Training(IT) in 400L.

Ah! Nigeria showed me Pepper!!! 🌶️ 🔥

Ordinary I.T o!

Not even a real job o! 😂

Just I.T!!

I trekked the whole of Lagos until the sun almost fried my "FIRST CLASS"
Brain

I even recall one incident where I tried to submit my application letter to a

company I wanted to work for.

I got to the gate and the gateman didn't even let me through the gate. 😂
He even told me to stop "LOITERING" around the gate, and to stop being a
NUISANCE!

A whole me?!!! NUISANCE?!! 😂

A whole first class student o.

I was so hurt by this incident that after I got home that day I decided not to
look for another I.T space.
I eventually had to do my I.T at a company that belonged to my Dad's old
time friend.

This made me start thinking clearly.

So what if my dad's old friend wasn't available?

What would I have done?

😂
Wait?!! Is this how it's going to be like when I look for a job later after
school?!

Does it mean that I can't even get an Ordinary I.T without stress

And mind you,

They still won't pay me o!. It's not like I was even looking for payment sef.

I just wanted to work somewhere!

That was when I realized the kind of mess I was in..

It was a seriously messed up situation.

I discovered that….

I HAD NO NEEDED VALUE THERE!!

I couldn't help them solve any problem, despite my First class.

That was when I started to think of what skill to develop.

I thought of programming but it was already late. I knew that it would take
so much time to learn programming and I was almost in final year!!

And again, I hated programming because I thought it was damn boring! 😂

So one day while I was scrolling through WhatsApp, I saw a post for a
copywriting class.

I was eager to know what copywriting was all about, so I joined the main
group after paying 5k for the 30-DAY training.

I gave it my ALL!!

And after those 30-DAYS, I didn't look back!!

To be honest, I didn't learn much about copywriting in that class, but my
mind changed!!

I started to see money differently.

I started to see a different future for myself.

I saw a future where I would use my God given talents to make crazy
money for myself,

And if I ever decided to get a job, I would be so valuable they'd beg me to

work for a crazy high pay!!

I even went ahead to apply the things I learnt from that copywriting class to
my small TUTORIAL BUSINESS in FUPRE (SEAMAT ACADEMY) which
you might know about.

This simple application helped me make my first N1million in two

semesters!!

It was unreal!!

I had just discovered something that worked!

I reached a state called MENTAL TRANSFORMATION

The reason I know this is because I have gone on to make some
good money since then using my skills and I've also helped a
good number of people do the same.

I currently have a full job as a copywriter for one of the fastest

growing digital advertising companies in Nigeria without even
being a graduate!!

This skill has also given me the opportunity to work with high
calibre foreign clients, helping them make more sales in their
businesses while getting paid for it.

I've also been able to develop more expensive and highly

demanded skills since that time.

I don't think I would be proud to say I've come a long way.

I mean, if you consider that I was a simple bookworm with no knowledge of
anything outside of books and getting a first class

MENTAL TRANSFORMATION made this possible, and it can do the same

for you.

Look, I've been teaching a very long time and I've seen a lot of people try to
learn many things but fail because they already have a failed mindset.
In fact, I believe this particular interesting saying..

"if you can change the MIND, you can change the MAN"

Okay lemme not lie. 🙈

I just made up that saying 😂…
but it really is true!!

King Solomon, The wisest man to have ever lived, said:

"As a man thinks in his heart, so he is"

I can't tell you the bible verse, go and find it on your own! 😉
Enough about mental transformation, I believe by now your mind should be
opened to learning.

Let's move on to the main thing on our table today

WHY SHOULD YOU LEARN DIGITAL SKILLS?!

I'm going to give you 4 MASSIVE reasons why you should

start digital skills today!!

So let's get started with the first one:

Reason1: NO COMPANY WILL EVER HIRE A PERSON WITH NO

VALUE!!

You read my story right?

I wish I could tell you that school, certificate and good results was enough.

I really really wish I could

I also wanted to believe that narrative until life taught me a lesson through
my IT.

I used to think that companies were willing to train people as long as they
have good results from school.

HOW WRONG I WAS!! 😭

I know you probably are still thinking the same thing.

So I'm going to save you all the trouble today..

No Company is looking for random people to train!

Here's why this is true 👇

In today's world, your "VALUE" is NOT your certificate.

Analyse this with me,

What makes diamonds valuable?

Because few people have the original ones right?

Now, think again…

How many people have a certificate?

Millions of Nigerian students!!

So if your "value" is just your certificate, then you literally have NO VALUE!!
Now you know what VALUE is NOT!

So what exactly is considered "VALUABLE"?

Integrity, Experience, Credibility, and Results!

This will lead me to the second reason where I will explain better…

Reason 2; YOU CAN BUILD INTEGRITY, EXPERIENCE,

CREDIBILITY AND RESULTS

Now that you understand what it means to be "VALUABLE"

You need to understand that skills are the BEST ways to build VALUE.

Let me explain.

Do you know why companies make people go through many different

stages of interviews before employing anyone?

It's one simple reason.

Companies are looking for workers that they can be proud of!!
They are looking for highflyers, people who CAN produce results, people
who can help them make crazy amounts of money each year.

They are looking for people who ALREADY have some VALUE( integrity,
experience, credibility and results)

They are NOT looking for random people with certificates!

Imagine going to search for a big job in a huge company with just your
certificate.

And you happen to be competing for the same job with another person of
same age as you who has the following:

20,000 active followers on Twitter( credibility)!

Earning 2M naira monthly from his skills (results)!

Has worked with over 500 foreign and local businesses as a

freelancer with documented positive reviews from them (experience)!

Has a whole lot of people on social media and his past clients
regarding him as an honest and responsible person (integrity)!

Now tell me something, if you were the one giving the job, would you even
employ yourself?

You see what VALUE means now?

This is what digital skills can do for you.

Not only will you make money, you will build VALUE (integrity, credibility,
results and experience)

This is what makes ANY company you apply to after school to see
you as a person worth investing in!

Reason 3: DIGITAL SKILLS WILL REDUCE PRESSURE OF LIFE

AFTER SCHOOL!

In case you don't know yet, graduating from the university is NO JOKE!

Most people are not prepared for it until reality hits them and they begin to
feel the pressure.
 - No more support from parents (your parents will need to focus on
your younger siblings if you have them)

- Friends moving in different life directions

- The pressure from expectations of family and friends

- The sudden realization that you're really genuinely broke because

everything is so damn expensive!

- The fear and frustration of rejection from companies you applied to

for a job

- The daily feeling of being a failure until you find a job.

In my experience, this pressure is what forces people to decide to take

smaller jobs around because they have no choice.

They have to clothe, feed and shelter.

But the problem with smaller jobs is that you will be overworked and will
probably never get the time required to devote to other things that could
have helped you grow.

This is why you'll see some graduates doing a teaching job and they'll be
there for years and make no real progress.

They don't have a choice!

They're stuck inside a cycle of salary and expenses that would
require high risk taking to get out of.

And Nigerians are not accustomed to taking big risks like that because
nobody wants to go homeless or have to beg another person for food after
school right?

Being a Nigerian is already a big risk! 😂

With that said, let me warn you seriously now.

It's better to humbly stay in your parents house a bit after

school to learn something worthwhile and financially
sustainable(a skill or business) while looking for a good job
than to use the need for "independence" to push you into a very
low paying job that keeps you stuck for a very long time!

A person with ONLY ONE digital skill like Graphics design, Copywriting,
Content writing and SEO or Programming, is in a much better position,
especially if he/she started early!

There are average freelancers making at least 200k monthly just by doing
graphics design for companies.

200k a month is actually small, but the advantage is that the person is
under less pressure.
He can calm down to learn more and improve on his skills while applying
and waiting for better paying stable jobs

He can afford to have time to develop other areas of his life.

The benefits are just endless!

One final reason

Reason 4: YOU'RE NOT GEOGRAPHICALLY STABLE YET

I know some people are probably thinking

"But Tutor Jerry, I already have a skill but not a digital skill"

Well, physical skills are very good, but digital skills are more suitable if
you're young.

Please don't stop your physical skill!

But find a useful High income digital skill to add to it, and also make sure to
build an online presence with your physical skill.

What I mean is, if You are into fashion design for instance, learn something
like social media marketing, business branding, internet sales and
Copywriting, e.t.c
Apart from those skills being highly useful and high income(people are
willing to pay you a lot of money for these skills!), these skills will also help
you as a fashion designer to build social media presence, branding, social
credibility and will ultimately help you get plenty of customers.

Take note of this; building social media relevance is much more than just
posting your fashion design jobs on social media.

Other things go into it, LEARN THEM!

Same thing goes for other physical skills.

But why am I prioritizing digital skills?

As a young person in school, you're not geographically stable yet.

You don't know where NYSC will take you.

You have no idea where you're going to finally settle and work.

You don't even know where marriage might take you.

And it would be difficult to always have to move a sewing machine down to

all these places to continue your skill.

And don't forget, whenever you move, you have to start from scratch again
building new customers.
It's not the same with a digital skill where all you need is your smartphone
and/or laptop(some skills don't even need a laptop) and all your customers
are strangers you've never and will probably never meet in your life(in my
case as a freelance Copywriter, I've worked with people from countries I
don't even know)

Got the point now?

Moving around a lot can impact your physical skill!
