Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the
course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook
and other course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance
to update this and format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization. (Disguised

Identity)

The organization that I choose to study is called “Marks’ Food

Corporation.” This distribution facility has been family owned for over 100
years and specializes in supplying grocery stores, restaurants, and other
smaller distributors across the state of Texas. Overall, the company supplies its
customers with a wide range of poultry, beef, pork, seafood, and even some dry
goods like disposable cups, plates, and silverware you would likely see as a fast
food or take out restaurant. The business currently has over 25 trucks in its fleet
and around 75 employees including human resources, accountants, secretaries,
managers, warehouse men and women, truck drivers, and a sales force. Even
with the company dealing in hundreds of thousands if not million dollar sales
weekly, it is still considered to be a smaller business in its industry and its areas
of operation.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an

internal or external role).

My current role in the organization is purely external by taking time to

learn all the knowledge and information I can during my pursuit to obtain my
college degree. However, I have currently been working directly with the
corporation to help solve issues within their humans resource areas. The idea is

1
that with me taking the initiative to learn the best approaches to different
human resource problems, I will be able to find proper solutions to them which
will ultimately affect the rest of the company's efficiency for the positive.
Ultimately, my current title for the business would be considered part of the
human resource sector. I see this as a good opportunity because human
resources is the position that can best help the largest situation facing the
company today.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think

will help the reader understand the most important elements of
the situation. (This will require selectivity: part of the art of
case writing is separating the essential facts from the mass of
information that might be included).

The largest situation this company currently faces is lack of open

communication that reaches higher up personnel resulting in poor systems and
procedures (structural frame) (Bolman & Deals, 2021). Ultimately, this affects
communication about different problems such as harassment and other things
that should be mentioned or reported for the employees to have full job
satisfaction (human resource frame) (Bolman & Deals, 2021). A lack of
communication between upper and lower position workers can result in
conflicts within the organization due to employees' different conflicting agendas
and not being held responsible to respect each of them (political frame) (Bolman
& Deals, 2021). By creating good communication, overall, it will help each
employee feel significant and stay motivated which ultimately affects the
businesses overall efficiency (symbolic frame) (Bolman & Deals, 2021). Open
communication is essential for all businesses to run their best and I see it being
the largest problem Marks’ Food Corporation faces. I believe by focusing on
each of the different frames will, in return, form the company into a completely
ethical corporation from top to bottom.
