My dream room.

I’m 20 years old and still don’t have my own room. Around 2012, my dad built
a second floor in our house, with the purpose of making more rooms because the
house only had three, my old sister’s room, my parent’s room and a small one that
we only used for the clean laundry. I used to sleep with my sister but it was
uncomfortable owing to the tiny space. I didn’t have my own room, so with the
building of the second floor I would finally have one. Unfortunately, my dad couldn’t
finish it for personal reasons, so until today the floor is still in progress and I have to
sleep with my mom. Since then, I’ve been thinking a lot about how my dream room
would be and all the things I would put there to make it feel comfy.

To start building my dream room, I have to plan everything. First of all, I have
to paint the walls. I would choose a gray light color or a gray almost white. I think
those kinds of colors —light and less saturated— make the room seem bigger and
brighter. Also the sunlight will cover the whole dorm, and therefore in the afternoons
the room will look warmer, making the place feel serene and calm. Moreover, if we
put together the breeze going through the window and these warm tones of the
sunset, it gives us a perfect comfy space to just lay on bed and stay there until the
sun goes down completely. Then, for the floor I would put a floating floor of a darker
gray color than the walls, so the room will give us a sense of harmony and
organization. With the floating floor it will be easier to clean and sweep around.
Besides, it would not break as easily as the ceramic floor, which is heavier and looks
really worn over time.
Finishing with the basic appearance or structure of the room, now I have to
decorate and organize all the furniture. It is important to say that my mom had been
buying me all the furniture that I needed for the last few years, so when I finally had
my room I could have all the things ready and not have to wait again to buy a bed,
desk, closet, etc. With that said, now I can explain how I would organize my room.
Let’s start with my black desk. My first priority about this furniture is that it
must be right next to the window, because when I’ll be studying or drawing I will have
all the natural light, making me feel comfortable, less anxious and more focused on
what I’m doing. The desk has an L shape so it fits perfectly on the left corner of the
room in front of the door, which is next to the window just as I wanted. On my desk I
will put my notebook computer with another screen and a white keyboard. The other
screen will be bigger than the notebook screen, so I won't have to force my sight too
much looking at it, also it will be very helpful for video games because I will have
more range of view. Next to my computer, I would like to put a small lamp for when
I’m going to be studying. I want a led digital alarm clock as well, because it’s big
enough to see it from the place where I want to put my bed, and it looks pretty nice
as a decoration, that’s the main reason actually. Of course I would put some little
decorations and details like a small plant, figures, calendar, etc. The desk it’s quite
big so the space is not a problem.
On the other hand, we have my bed and closet. My bed is one of those that
had another bed under it, so when someone comes to visit me from another city or
just to spend the night, they have an extra bed to sleep in. I wanted a black
bedspread, but it is difficult to see if there is a spider on it —it had happened before
that a spider was on the bed and ran to me trying to kill me— so, unfortunately, it's
not an option, but it could be a white one instead. I want to put my bed next to the
wall, at the bottom right side of the room looking at the door, parallel at the window
because in that position I could see the sky from my bed. For the closet, I think I will
put it next to the window looking at the desk, it’s not too big so I think it will look good
there. There is not much to say about the closet, the doors are white and the sides
simulate a wood texture and color. It is small because I don’t have too many clothes,
so it’s perfect for me.
Now there are just a few details left to finish the room, like putting a wall shelf
for my other stuff that are smaller, like books, figures or cuddly toys. I want a small
unit shelf too specifically for my CD collection and the CD player. I also want to put a
big mirror on the wall, between the door and my bed. The problem is that I don't
know if there will be enough space there, but if it’s not, I will figure out where to place
the mirror. Another small detail that I want to add to the room is decorative lighting
round the roof boarding the walls, like the Christmas lights but these are different,
they are not too big and only have one color light. These lights give a relaxing vibe at
night. I have those kinds of lights in my mom’s room and I love them, they give that
homey feeling to the room and peace.

All in all, my dream room is not as far away as I thought it would be. It’s still
possible to have my bedroom and my own space. I would finally be able to study and
concentrate without distractions or loud noises, and most importantly, I would have
my own privacy. Sometimes I’m tired of still waiting, and I lose the hope of having my
room, but my mom always cheers me up and helps me to be closer to my goal. To
finish the room we only need to buy a window and a door, but now all of that it’s too
expensive and we can’t afford it right now, but if I save money little by little it could be
possible to buy it someday, and when that day comes, I will be infinitely happy. For
now, all I can do is wait patiently for that day to arrive soon, just like I’ve been doing
it all this time.
