2nd Written Assignment: Individual Reflective Paper (20%)

1. Expected Learning Outcomes

 Demonstrate gender sensitivity and understanding of diverse and related social
phenomena in both local and global contexts.

2. Guidelines
 This assignment aims at consolidating your assimilation of the basic knowledge and
theories of gender issues.
 Participate in ONE of the following workshops that will be organized on Oct 29 (Sat)
o 1st workshop on sexual violence: 1pm – 2pm
o 2nd workshop on transgender issues: 2:15pm – 3:15pm
 Explore the values, norms, experience, or identity formation of the target group
 Use relevant sources such as journal articles, newspaper, and other media as
supplementary information
 Write an essay to apply at least THREE theories/concepts you have learned in lectures to
analyze the case.
 At least ONE of the theories/concepts have to come from the lecture topics of
“Masculinities”, “Sexual Discourses” OR “Sexualities and Sexual Minorities”.
 Critically analyze your observations and findings that you have received from the
workshop and relevant sources.
 Reflect how the workshop has inspired your understanding, your personal thoughts,
attitude on the targeted group.
 You may also provide suggestion to the discussed gender issue.
 Deadline of the paper: Nov 18, 2022, 11:59pm (Friday)
 Words: 1200-1500 words (excluding citations)
 Type your essay. Submit the softcopy of your essay in PDF format via Turnitin on
Moodle. Handwriting is not accepted.
 Please use “Times New Roman” as word font, in a font size of 12, and double-line
spacing.
 Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
 Only English-written assignment will be marked.

  Please make sure that the submitted file is openable. Any corrupted file/ wrong file/ blank
file will be seen as non-submission.
 Please try to submit your file earlier. Avoid submitting the file in the last minute, as there
might be technical problems when too many students upload their files at the same time.
 In case you encounter any difficulty in submitting your file to Moodle and Turnitin,
please send a copy of it to your Subject Lecturer by email.

 For late submission of assignment, 1) 5% of marks will be deducted per day.

2) Zero mark: Any submission after Nov 25, 2022.

4. Grading Aspects
Data and Rich and relevant information on the case, including usage of images 30%
observation from media to illustrate your reflection
Knowledge Deep understanding on the unique mind-frame and values of the target; 40%
and reflection self-awareness; sensible discussion and application on appropriate
gender-related theories / concepts
Writing & Coherence between data and reflection; good integration in content; 30%
organization smooth discussion, neat organization
