With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

To deal with most situations that may arise while traveling in contexts where the
language is spoken, by comparing two different civilizations.

The activity consists of:

Individual:

1. Read the contents of unit 1 and the following articles:

2. Individually, answer the following questions about the two most important
civilizations of the world. Western civilization and eastern civilization. Also,
make five comparisons between the two of them in every answer.

a. What are the most important social characteristics of the two mentioned
civilizations?
b. What are the most important traditions in the two mentioned civilizations?
c. What are the principal differences between the two civilizations?
d. How did the two civilizations conceive religion and spirituality? Differences
and similarities.
e. What is the role of the woman in the two civilizations in the past century and
now? Differences and similarities.
f. What do you consider are the most important values and failures of every
civilization and why?
g. What do you consider are the most important contributions of every
civilization to humanity? Why?

Western civilization:
The western civilization is characterized by having a strong believe in
democracy. Also, the rational thinking is a very important feature in the bases
of the civilization due to the…
Eastern civilization:
In the eastern countries, elders are considered as the leaders of the home and
the children…they consider the soul…

Comparisons:
Western countries are more rational than the easter ones, due to the important
Europe gives to the scientific advances.

disadvantages of each civilization. Two members of the group must be in favor
of the western civilization and two in favor of the eastern civilization. And one
member must be the moderator of the debate.

For Collaborative evidence, consider the following:

• All members of the group must participate with their contributions in the
development of the activity.

• In each group a single member will be chosen to submit the requested


product in the environment indicated by the teacher.

• Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it


meets all the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

• Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during
the time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the
submitted product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.

Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.
