With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

Develop activities that promote the improvement of communication skills of


production and reception in the context of everyday language situations.
The activity consists of:

Pre-Task: Watch a video.

- Step 2: Once you have watched the video and read the article, post your
perception about the topic and answer the following questions:
o What do you think about the use of social media in children?
o From your teacher's role, how would you show the advantages and
disadvantages of the use of social media in your students and their
parents?
Task-Cycle: Develop an open discussion with your group about the topic
“Use of social media in Teenagers”
- Step 3: Create an outline of the discussion following this structure:
o Identify your topic or thesis statement.
o Decide what points you would like to discuss during your speaking
discussion.

o Put your points in logical, numerical order so that each point connects
back to your main point.
- Step 4: Choose the app you will use to develop the Open discussion.
o An open discussion is when anyone can participate and say anything
basically. The opposite of an open discussion would be a closed
discussion which is like when your parents are telling you what to do and
you cannot respond. An open discussion is when anyone can participate
and say anything basically.
o In this activity, each member of the group must participate in an active
way, and you have to pick the app that you will use in order to develop
the Open discussion.
o Here you have a list of some apps you can use in order to develop the
conference to record your open discussion.

- Step 5: The open discussion must have the following structure:
o Opening: Where you introduce all the participants of the discussion and
give a general idea about the topic.
o Retake the information you included in the outline to give an order to the
discussion.
o Step 6: Record the open discussion and get a link of the recording.

Step 6: Work together with your classmates to prepare a Word document that
includes the individual participation and comments posted in the collaborative forum
for this task. (Please organize this information in one page per student). Please also
include the link of the Discussion recording.
For the development of the activity consider that:

In the Initial Information Environment, you must:

- Check the Course Agenda to organize your time.


- Check the Course News for important information.
- Verify the date of the First Web Conference so that you can plan your
participation accordingly.
- Verify your tutors’ synchronous attention by Skype.

In the Learning Environment, you must:

- Check the Course Contents and Bibliographic References for Unit 1: Quite a

- Go to the discussion forum for the task and actively participate with your
collaborative group.
- Give feedback to your e-mates if necessary.

In the Evaluation Environment, you must:

Keep in mind your suggestions or corrections must be well based and show respect for
your partners’ ideas and intellectual work.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidences to Submit

For Collaborative evidences, consider the following:

a. Cover page (names and last names of participants, course info, tutor name,
date).
b. Individual activity one page per participant.
c. Comments and feedback given to partners’ contributions regarding to the topic.
(Please do not use screenshots).
d. Link with the recording of the open discussion.
e. References (APA style).

 All members of the group must participate with their contributions in the
development of the activity.

 In each group a single member will be chosen to submit the requested product in
the environment indicated by the teacher.

 Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets all
the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

 Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during the
time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the submitted
product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.
