Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Task 6 Better times ahead

1. Activity Description

With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following
learningoutcomes:
Learning Outcome 1: Apply basic and concrete vocabulary, that is a series of phrases
and sentences related to personal information, daily activities, and stories of life
events in written communication tasks.

Learning Outcome 2: Use the highest frequency vocabulary, common expressions,


and phrases, to handle very short social exchanges in synchronous encounters or
oralpresentations.

The activity consists of:


Individual activity

Step 1. Study the material related to comparatives and superlatives adjectives.

Step 2. Choose one member of your family or friend and fill in the information in the
chart below, using that information write a paragraph making some comparisons
using comparative and superlatives:

Example: My best friend is Marie; she is 25 years old and I am 30, I am older than
her. We both are nurses, and we work in the same hospital. She is as intelligent and
hard-working as me, but I am more outgoing, she is the quietest person I know…

Step 3. Study the vocabulary to describe places in the following link:

Step 4. Describe the city or town where you live using the vocabulary from step 3
considering the following characteristics:

- Weather
- Living cost
- Night life and entertainment
- Best places to visit
- Food specials
- Population

Example: I live in Bogotá, it is the biggest city in Colombia, it is very cold and it rains
most of the time…

Step 5. Do some research about the best cities in the world to live and choose your
favorite one, write some sentences to describe the city using superlative adjectives.

Example: I chose Venice because it has a nice weather, and it is considered the most
beautiful city in the world…

Collaborative activity

Step 6. Study the future tenses in English. (will, going to and present continuous)

Step 7. Check the document annex 4. “Roles for collaborative task”, choose one
roleand inform your groupmates in the forum.

Step 8. Each member of the group must choose one of the following categories and
create at least 10 predictions for each one. You must base your predictions on facts
or scientific evidence and share your predictions in the forum.

- Education and jobs


- Technology and transportation
- Relationships and social interaction
- Economy and politics
- Lifestyle and leisure time

Step 9. Get together and create a videocast called “what will be the future be like in
20 years?”, all members of the group must present their predictions in a clear way.
You can use a presentation, but it cannot have text, only images or short phrases to
guide your speech. To record your videocast, you can use a meeting tool such as
zoom, teams or any other you prefer as long as you can record the screen and
upload the recording to YouTube. All of you must appear on camera all the time and
interact with your groupmates. Bear in mind that it is not a presentation but a
videocast so you must consider:

- Greet and introduce the videocast with a catching and witty opening to the
topic
- Introduce the members
- Develop the ideas in order
- Present the predictions giving a context. Example: “According to scientist and
due to medical advances, people will live more than 100 years”, “Some
economists predict that people will have just one global currency and it will
probably be a crypto coin”
- Close the podcast with some comments, conclusions, or reflections on the topic
- Speak fluently and clear, so you must rehearse before starting and help each
other correct pronunciation or grammar mistakes.

Step 9. Do your part according to the collaborative role and collaboratively send the
template task 6 with the individual tasks and the link to the collaborative videocast.
Only one final document must be sent by the one with the deliveries role.

Note: Remember to use annex 3 – Template task 6 to deliver the document

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidences to Submit

For Collaborative evidences, consider the following:

 All members of the group must participate with their contributions in the
development of the activity.

 In each group a single member will be chosen to submit the requested product in
the environment indicated by the teacher.

 Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets all
the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

 Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during the
time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the submitted
product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.

Under the Academic Code of Conduct, the actions that infringe the academic order,
