8.30 Homework

Reflect:

The next time you’re assigned to read a text online, pay attention to your process.
Take some notes on just how you read:

Do you go straight through, or do you stop often? Well to be honest the most
efficient way to read a text online and it is very lengthy I simply skip to the
important stuff and try to evade the unnecessary things. For example, if I was
looking for penguins in the text, I will simply just skip the other animals and read
the penguin notes.

Do you take notes? Yes, taking notes is a crucial thing as highlighting text or just
writing something down can refresh your memory on what you were reading.

Do you take breaks while reading to attend to something else? Yes, I always try
to take breaks when reading something that will take a while, but if I can finish it
in the moment I will. That is where the notes come in because when I take a break
sometimes, they take longer than five minutes.

What do you do if you don’t understand a passage? I simply go back to start if I

am not to ahead in the passage or I look for the point in the passage where I got
lost and review that text. Maybe I don’t get it the first time because of how fast I
am reading but the second time around If I read slowly I will for sure understand.

How long can you read at a stretch and maintain full concentration? I will last for
about 10 -15 minutes and it mostly depends where I am located while reading
and how interesting is the passage. If I am at my house a solid 30 minutes I will
last and if the passage is good I will finish it even if it takes me an hour to do so.

Then answer the same questions the next time you’re assigned to read a print
text. What differences do you notice in the way you read each text? What I can

see that is different when I read online vs print is that I can concentrate better
while it is online and less on the print. I can tell by the way the online text is set
up and then when I look at the print text it sometimes looks too crowded and it
makes it harder for me to concentrate.

What conclusions can you draw about how to be a more effective reader, both
on-and off-screen? The best advise and conclusion from what I’ve gathered is to
take your time on the text and read the whole text with notes and breaks now
and then to facilitate the writing.
