The process of land development involves changing a landscape to suit the
needs of those who seek to inhabit it and utilize it.

What are we going to learn in this section?

In the process of developing lands, we are going

to come across some structural components and
all kinds of materials. Each element has its
quality, attribute, or distinctive feature and
uses for the building. We must consider these
properties to select the perfect materials to
construct functional and durable structures or
properties that will persist against predicted and
unpredicted damages. That is why we must
understand and recognize these attributes.

Practice II
Make sentences about four other
properties of materials from this
table:

STEEL
Steel has the property of high tensile strength
this means it can resist high tensile forces.

STONE
Stone has the property of high compressive
strength that means it can resist high
compressive forces.

Make sentences about four other
properties of materials from this
table:

GLASS WOOL
Glass wool has the property of good
thermal insulation, this means it does not
transmit heat easily.

BRICK
Brick has the property of good sound
insulation, that means it does not transmit
sound easily.
