TOPIC OR TITLE:
THE EFFECT OF PASTE OR MOUTHRINSES CONTAINING POWDERED
QUAIL EGG SHELLS AND RICE WATER AS A NATURAL TEETH
WHITENER WITH ANTI-MICROBIAL PROPERTY,
BACKGROUND:
Rice water contains a lot of vitamin PP which is known for its effect in
whitening the teeth. Vitamin PP or Niacin, also known as nicotinic acid, is an
organic compound and a form of vitamin B₃, an essential human nutrient.
This is important for your teeth as it keep oral inflammation under control
and mouth sores from forming. Besides this, it helps whiten the teeth.
Moreover, in a study conducted by Takayama et al. (2015) titled ‘Effect of a
mouthrinse containing rice peptide CL(14-25) on early dental plaque
regrowth: a randomized crossover pilot study’, their mouthrinse containing
0.4 % rice peptide CL(14-25) was effective in reducing the early regrowth of
dental plaque.
In a study made titled ‘Formulation and Development of an Experimental
Polishing Paste with Antimicrobial Activity Based on Coturnix coturnix
(Codorniz) Eggshell’, the researchers were able to conclude that their quail
paste demonstrated antimicrobial efficacy against C. albicans and S.
mutans. Furthermore, in a study titled ‘Effect of Chicken Egg Shell Powder
Solution on Early Enamel Carious Lesions: An Invitro Preliminary Study’,
the chicken egg cells contain calcium which also can remineralise enamel
surface lesion.

RATIONALE:
Chairside teeth whitening using chemicals may be expensive for other
people and it can make the patient experience tooth sensitivity. Hence, a
natural teeth whitener in the form of pastes or mouthrinses may be
affordable for the masses and be used every day. Furthermore, because
natural ingredients will be used, there may be chance that these ingredients
may not cause tooth sensitivity as compared to the chemicals carbamide
peroxide and hydrogen peroxide which are used as teeth whiteners.

MAIN OBJECTIVE:
The aim of this study is to evaluate the teeth whitening, anti-microbial
effect, and remineralization potential of mouth rinses or pastes containing
rice water and Coturnix coturnix quail eggshell.
