The articles found evidence that vaping can cause inflammation in the lungs, heart, brain and other organs in mice. Chemicals released when vaping oils were heated were also found to pose respiratory risks. Several case reports described patients who developed acute respiratory illnesses, pneumothorax or lung injuries from vaping. Other studies showed vaping can impair lung function and immune responses in mice. Vaping products containing medium-chain triglyceride oils or vitamin E acetate were implicated in some cases of EVALI.
