LESSON PLAN

Grade Level: GRADE 8 Section : Honesty

Learning Area: SCIENCE (Biology) Date: February 22, 2019
Time: 2:45pm-3:45pm

Content Standard:
The Learners demonstrate an understanding of:
meiosis as one of the processes producing genetic variations of the Mendelian
Pattern of Inheritance.

Performance Standard:
The Learners shall be able to:
predict phenotypic expressions of traits following simple patterns of
inheritance

Learning Competency:
The Learners shall be able to...
predict phenotypic expressions of traits following simple patterns of
inheritance (Code: S8LT-IVf-18)

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
1. Determine the percentage and ratio of every offspring
2. Draw a punnet square to illustrate the different offspring
3. Report in class the image of the offspring.

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic:
Mendelian Genetics
B. Reference:
Alvarez, Liza A. et.al (2014). Science 9 Learner’s Module. FEP Printing
Corporation. (p. 235-250)
C. Teaching Strategies:
Powerpoint Presentation, round reporting, circle race
D. Materials:
powerpoint, projector
E. Values:
Respect and Responsibility
F. Key Concepts:
 Law of Dominance- In a cross of parents that are pure for contrasting traits, only
one form of the trait will appear in the next generation.
 Law of Segregation- During the formation of gametes (eggs or sperm), the two
alleles responsible for a trait separate from each other.

 Law of Independent Assortment- Alleles for different traits are distributed to sex
cells (& offspring) independently of one another.
 This law can be illustrated using dihybrid crosses.

III. Learning Tasks:

Preparation: (5min)
A.1 Prayer
A.2 Room Conditioning
A.3 Checking of Attendance (The president will check the attendance).
A.4 Review
Guide Questions:
- Can you still recall the topic discussed yesterday?

A.5 Motivation
 Racing game- students will answer how many percentage and ratio
are there in an offspring.
B. Lesson Proper:
B.1 Activity (15min)
 Concept Notes- students will be given an enough time to write the
important points of the topic.
 Reporting/Presentation- students will present their output in the
class.

B.2 Analysis (10min)

 The teacher will present the punnet square in class and the traits
given.

B.3 Abstraction (10min)

 The students will try to discuss their answers and answer the
following guide questions:
1. How many percent of offpsrings are there?
2. How many offsprings are shown in a ratio?
