Teaching Date and Time May 23, 2023 Quarter Fourth

Content Standard: Meiosis as one of the processes producing genetic variations of the Mendelian Pattern of
Inheritance
Performance Standard: Report on the importance of variation in plant and animal breeding
Learning Competency: Predict phenotypic expressions of traits following simple patterns of inheritance; (S8LT-IVf-18)

I. Objectives:

1. Explain Monohybrid cross.

2. Use a Punnet square when solving for Monohybrid crosses.
3. Cite the importance of variation in plant and animal breeding.
II. Content:
Subject Matter: Punnet square for a Monohybrid crosses
Integration: English- Speaking/ Reporting
Math- Solving for genotypic and phenotypic ratios
Strategies: 7es Learning model, Cooperative Learning

III. Learning Tasks:

Elicit (Access prior knowledge)
What are the characteristics of the garden pea plants used by Mendel in his experiment?
Engage (Get the students’ minds focused on the topics)
Students will make a punnet square for a monohybrid cross.
I- inflated dominant
i- Constricted recessive
Heterozygous inflated is crossed with homozygous constricted. Calculate the ratio of inflated and constricted.
Explore (Provide students with a common experience)
1. Divide the class into 7 members
2. Introduce the Activity : “Filling up the Punnet square for a monohybrid cross”
3. Give other necessary instruction in performing the activity, to be accomplished, group reporter, and
member’s role/responsibility.
Explain (Teach the concept. Should include interaction between teacher and students)
1. Reporting: Group representative present the output of the activity.
2. While discussing the activity, teacher will check the students’ answers.
Elaborate (Students apply the information learned in Explain)
 Cite the importance of variation in plant and animal breeding.

Evaluate (How will you know that the students have learned the concept?)

Both heterozygous yellow seed is crossed. Given that (G) is dominant and (g) is recessive.
1. What is the genotype?
2. What is the phenotype?
3. Calculate the genotypic ratio?
4. Solve for the phenotypic ratio.
Extend (Deepen conceptual understanding through the use in new context)
