The Gospel or Good News of salvation undergirds the Old

Testament. The New Testament reveals the Gospel. For
this reason, it is said that the Old is the New concealed and
the New is the Old revealed.
When we read the Old Testament scriptures with that of
the New Testament in mind, we begin to see the hidden
mystery of God's wisdom. He declares the end from the
beginning (Isaiah 46:10). Studying the Bible becomes an
exciting adventure of searching out golden nuggets of
redemption truth.
This book is written in the hope of whetting your appetite
for the written Word of God. All quoted scriptures are
from the Amplified Bible unless otherwise stated.

FOREWORD
God put in place the redemption plan before He proceeded
with creation. This can be seen from Genesis chapters 1 and
2. Check out my book entitled “Creation from the Lens of
Redemption” at http://bit.ly/redeemedkw.
In this book, Genesis Chapters 3 to 11 are expounded to
reveal how the redemption plan was set in motion.
God wanted His Own family of beloved children to lavish
them with His love and provisions (Ephesians 1:5;
Galatians 4:4-5). His deepest desire has always been for
humanity to get to know and love Him (Hosea 6:6, Living
Bible).
God is Almighty. Yet, He cannot create love. Love cannot
be manufactured or forced. It must be voluntary. A
genuine loving relationship is established through trials and
tribulations.
The Omniscient God already knew that Adam would
disobey Him. Yet He created him to beget His family.
God is prepared to shoulder every responsibility for
nurturing us into a loving relationship with Him. It carries
a hefty price tag. The death of God the Son.
A friend in need is a friend indeed (Hebrews 4:16). A
friend who helps you when you really need help is a true
friend. What a friend we have in Jesus!
2
GOD IS LOVE
We do not get to know the perfect love of God under
perfect conditions. This is exemplified by Eve. It is evident
from her perception of God.
GENESIS 2:16-17 AMP- WHAT GOD SAID
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You
may freely (unconditionally) eat [the fruit] from every
tree of the garden; but [only] from the tree of the
knowledge (recognition) of good and evil you shall
not eat, otherwise on the day that you eat from it, you
shall most certainly die [because of your
disobedience].”
GENESIS 3:2-3 AMP- HOW EVE PERCEIVED GOD
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit
from the trees of the garden (omitted freely and every),
except the fruit from the tree which is in the middle of
the garden. God said, ‘You shall not eat from it nor
touch it (added by Eve), otherwise you will die.’”

Genesis 2:16-17 demonstrated the generosity of God.

Genesis 3:2-3 revealed Eve’s erroneous perception of God
as withholding something good from her.

"The Tree of the knowledge of

good and evil looks so good.
Why did God not allow me
to eat from it? I can’t even
touch it!"

Eve
ONE THING NEEDFUL
Satan directed Eve to look away from the abundant
blessings and focus on the one thing God kept away to
protect her.
Today, we look away from all that distracts to do the one
thing needful: Keep hearing the Word or teachings of and
about Jesus. Christ crucified is the demonstration of God’s
immense and unfailing love for us (Luke 10:38-42;
Romans 5:8, 10:17; 2 Corinthians 10:5; Hebrews 12:2).

God already knew Adam would disobey Him. Through

Adam, He allowed us to decide between right and wrong
(Tree of the knowledge of good and evil). He then picked
up the pieces and cleaned up after us through Christ
crucified.
Jesus and Him crucified demonstrated the immense and
unfailing love of God (Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 2:2).
He came to correct the erroneous perception of God (John
17:6, 26).
3
WHAT & HOW WE HEAR
For this reason, Jesus said to pay
attention to what and how we listen
(Mark 4:24; Luke 8:18).

Therefore, do not add to or take

away from the Word of God
(Revelation 22:18-19). In other
words, do not distort the word of
God to impeach Him (2 Peter 3:15-
16; 2 Timothy 4:3-5).

Adam is a type of Christ albeit in

reverse (Romans 5:14).
Nonetheless, as the Federal Head,
Adam was tasked with the
responsibility of upholding God's
Word just as Christ was (John 5:19,
12:49). God is consistent (Malachi
3:6).
We have seen Eve’s erroneous
perception of God. God spoke to
Adam and not Eve. Therefore, it
would be Adam who shared God’s
Word with Eve. 1 Timothy 2:14
clearly states that Adam was not
deceived. Therefore, it is highly
possible that Adam distorted God’s
Word and thereby impeached God’s
generous nature.
Therein lies the exhortation to get
to know God for ourselves through
His written Word (Matthew 16:15;
Acts 17:11). Eve did not have the
luxury of God's written Word as we
do today.
4
CRIME OF TREASON

Everything belongs to God, the Creator of the heavens and

the earth (Genesis 14:19, 22; Deuteronomy 10:14; Psalm
50:10-11, 89:11; Haggai 2:8).
God created every material thing with humans in mind.
The entire cosmos and everything therein were made
conducive for human beings.
Then God gave the earth to Adam vis-à-vis humankind. He
gave our first progenitor the authority to rule the earth
(Genesis 1:28; Psalm 115:16).
However, Adam blatantly defied God and switched
allegiance to Satan (Genesis 3:6; 1 Timothy 2:14). He
committed treason!
Wala! Satan became the god of this world (Romans 5:12-
14; 2 Corinthians 4:4).

Sucker
S I N

Sin separates us from God. Loving parents would remove

any wedge between them and their beloved children. More
so God!
We were created to love and trust God because He first
loved us and He is faithful (1 John 4:19; 2 Thessalonians
3:3).
To trust God is to have faith in Him.

Faith is the title deed of things hoped for and the evidence
of things not seen. This confidence is based on the love and
faithfulness of God (Hebrews 11:1).
Whatever is not from faith is sin (Romans 14:23). And sin
misses the mark (Proverbs 19:2). Therefore, the mark is to
trust God.
We can relate to that in our life. How can we be close to
someone we do not trust? Distrust disintegrate relationships.
We missed it when we choose to reject God and trust in
ourselves. Without God, the devil can deceive us anytime.
The way to outsmart the devil is to follow God's advice.

Damn
I N I Q U I T Y

God is the Judge, Ruler, and King (Isaiah 33:22).

When we reject Him, we do what is right in our own eyes
(Judges 17:6). That is iniquity. Sadly, one man's meat is
another's poison and therein lies the chaos in the world.
Each decide between right and wrong at the expense of
another.
We have made ourselves out as the adjudicator of right and
wrong. This is the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
When our first ancestors partook of that tree, we inherited
the propensity to decide for ourselves what is right and
wrong; not God. It is an iniquity. It is an outright rejection
of God. We are separated from Him by that rejection
(Genesis 2:16-17).
Iniquity first occurred in Satan; the fallen Lucifer (Ezekiel
28:15, KJV). The Amplified Bible renders iniquity as evil.
C H A O S

Lucifer created chaos in heaven and was banished from the

third heaven (2 Corinthians 12:2; Revelations 12:4, 9).
The concept of the third heaven is called shamayi
h'shamayim or "Heaven of Heavens"). It is mentioned in
Genesis 28:12, Deuteronomy 10:14, and 1 Kings 8:27 as
a distinctly spiritual realm of angels and God.
The destiny of Satan, his fallen angels, and those who
choose his ways is eternal separation from God (Revelation
20:10, 14-15 ; 21:8).
God declares the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10).
There will be blatant scoffers in the last days (2 Peter 3:3).
Many will find the Word of God ludicrous because He
spoke of the future way in advance.
Satan is furious. His time on earth is short. Time on earth
is short when compared to eternity (Revelation 12:12).
Similarly, God advised us to redeem the time by making
good use of it (Ephesians 5:15-16).

A new heaven and earth is in mind (2 Peter 3:10).

Therefore, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves
do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:20).
TRANSGRESSIONS

With iniquity comes transgressions. We end up breaching

or transgressing the moral limits set by God.
Therefore, sin leads to iniquity and transgression.
We were created in God's image (Genesis 1:26). Yet, we
have conducted ourselves beneath the spiritual personality
and moral likeness of God; behaviour contrary to good
order and discipline.

We imagine ourselves as the captain of our own ship

(Romans 1:22)!
MORAL LIMITS
Moral limits are not confined to just sexual immorality.
God set moral limits to establish order in the entire cosmos
and everything therein.
For instance, God has set the sand as the limit or boundary
for the sea. The latter cannot cross over the former to once
again cover the earth (Genesis 9:11; Jeremiah 5:22; Job
38:10-11; Proverbs 8:29; Psalm 104:9).

God ordained the reproduction of living beings to be each

according to its own kind (Genesis 1:11-12; Genesis 1:21;
Genesis 1:24-25).
God established what could be eaten (Acts 10:9-15).
The consequences of breaching those limits are exemplified
in Romans 1:26-32. It is improper and repulsive to
transgress the limits set by God. Each will receive the
penalty for the wrongdoing (Romans 1:27-28).
The purpose of setting limits is to teach and not to punish.
The very act of setting limits reveals God as a loving Father.
The forbidden tree was the first limit set by God.
God gave us the gift of choice. With it, He also set limits to
teach us that our actions would result in predictable
consequences.

"On the day you eat of it, you shall certainly die"
- Genesis 2:17
5
DECEIT & SEDUCTION
The Bible put on record that Eve was fooled. Adam was not
(1 Timothy 2:14). He was fully aware of the limit set by
God and the consequence of breaching it.
Limits serve as a form of discipline by God the loving
father. Do not despise God's discipline or instruction
(Proverbs 3:11; Hebrews 12:5).

Deceit Seduction
Did God really say? Look at how good it is to
decide for yourself what is
In other words, God does good and bad; right and
not mean what He say. wrong.
Satan insinuated that God God withholds good things
was a liar. from you.
Satan was the first to lie. He How can something that
is the father of lies and half- look so good be wrong?
truths (John 8:44).

The tsunami was one of the dire consequences of sin

(Genesis 3:17-19). Satan used that to cast doubts on God's
integrity, “Did God really say He has set boundary for the
sea?” If He is so powerful, why did He let it happen?
The answer. If you play with fire, you get burnt. There are
consequences to sin (Galatians 5:19-21).
God set boundary for the sea such that the waters are not
allowed to once again cover the entire earth as the Deluge
(Genesis 9:11). Therein lies the subtleness of the deceiving
devil (Genesis 3:1).
THE DECEPTION
Sin derives its power and strength from the Law (1
Corinthians 15:56).

Sin uses the Law to deceive (Romans 7:11). The Law

reveals just how sinful men has become. It was not designed
to redeem mankind. Rather, it points to the need for a
Saviour. Salvation by keeping the Law is the deception.
The more we try to keep the Law, the more we break it and
drift further away from God (Romans 3:20; 7:15).

But when we feed on the love of God for us as demonstrated

by Christ crucified, we get closer to God. We end up loving
more because He first loved us (Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:19).
Little by little, we get transformed from the inside out (2
Corinthians 3:18, 3 John 2).
With that said, we can gauge how close we are to God by
how much we love (Matthew 7:16, 1 John 4:8, 16, 20).
Little acts of love go a long way in God's Kingdom
(Matthew 6:2-4, 10:42; 1 Corinthians 13:2; 1 John 3:18,
4:8,16 )
DECEIVING THE CHURCH
Eve was a picture of the Church. Eve came from the side of
Adam. The Church came from the side of Jesus Christ.
An erroneous perception of God corrupts the mind of the
Church (2 Corinthians 11:3; Romans 12:5; 1Corinthians
12:27). Have a good opinion of God. He is love (1 John 4:8,
16). He is faithful (Numbers 23:19; Romans 4:20-21; 2
Thessalonians 3:3). Love corrects. God is faithful to
transform us from the inside out (Proverbs 3:12; Hebrews
12:6, 11-13; 3 John 2).

The scriptures warn us of the deception.

The Serpent deceived

Eve and she ate from
the forbidden tree
(Genesis 3:13)

Encourage one another Sin beguiles and Trying to keep the Law
daily so that none may completely deceive causes us to break it
be hardened by sin's through the Law and even more (Romans
deceitfulness (Hebrews uses it as a murder 7:15)
3:13) weapon (Romans 7:11)

Just as the serpent

beguiled Eve by his
cunning, the mind of
the Church may be
corrupted and led
away from Christ (2
Corinthians 11:3)

We are for the Law for the reason the Law was given.
Lawlessness increases when one tries to keep the Law. It is a
paradox (Romans 7:15). The heart grows cold when one
attempts to keep the Law (Matthew 24:12).
6
L E T ' S R E D E E M
God put in place the redemption plan before He created
humans. This is the wisdom of God. It was necessary to
nurture us in love.
We see the manifested wisdom of God in Genesis Chapter
3. Adam handed over dominion of the earth to Satan. The
dire consequences of treason were unleashed on creation. In
the midst of declaring the ramifications, God announced the
redemption plan (Genesis 3:15-19).

The promised Seed would be the Saviour (Genesis 3:15).

From that point, the redemption plan was set in motion.
Genesis 3:15 is widely believed to be the first
announcement of the Gospel. Check out my book entitled
"Her Seed" at http://bit.ly/herseed.

However, the serpent vis-à-vis Satan was cursed. We know

that Satan is destined to be eternally separated from God and
thrown into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:10, 14-15 ;
21:8). On this basis, we can surmise that the darkness
mentioned in Genesis 1:4 alluded to the fiery lake.
Scriptural backing can be found in my book “Creation from
the Lens of Redemption” at http://bit.ly/redeemedkw.
UNION WITH CHRIST
We were created to be in perfect union with Christ. This
has been God’s intention right from the beginning.

A man shall become one Believers are baptized into a

flesh with his wife spiritual union with Christ
- Genesis 2:21-24 - Galatians 3:26-28

Take Christ away from the Christian and we are left with "i
a n"; I am nothing. Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing"
comes to mind - "I have nothing if I don't have You".
In Christ, there is no condemnation (Romans 8:1).
In Christ, we are a New Creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
In Christ, we are the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians
5:21).
In Christ, we have redemption (Romans 3:24).
In Christ, we are given the grace of God (1 Corinthians
1:4).
In Christ, we are made alive (1Corinthians 15:22).
In Christ, we are reconciled and restored to favour with
God (2 Corinthians 5:19)
And the list goes on.
This explains 1 Corinthians 1:31, "Let the one who boasts
boast in the Lord". Apart from Christ, we can do nothing
for without love, we amount to nothing (1 Corinthians
13:2). Jesus is God and God is love. We love because He
first loved us (John 1:1; 1 John 4:8, 16).

It is said that love cannot be preached but it comes from the

heart. Yet, who motivates the heart to love?
THORNS AND THISTLES
Thorns and thistles as well as eating bread by the sweat of
the face speak of hardships. On one dimension, it refers to
the ground resisting to produce good crops (Genesis 4:12).
They also allude to natural disasters, epidemics, and
pandemics. All these are the dire and severe consequences of
Adam’s disobedience.

In John 16:33, Jesus told us that we will encounter

tribulation, distress, and suffering. In other words, we will
witness the consequences of sin. However, the good news is
that we are protected from them in Christ.
Jesus was crowned with thorns so that we might be
crowned with honor and glory (John 19:2).
How do we experience victory in Christ? This brings us to
the concept of guides (Mark 4:13-19).
FOREIGN LAND
God gave the earth to Adam vis-à-vis
humankind. But Adam handed it over to Satan
who is now the god of this world (2
Corinthians 4:4).

We are sojourners in a transient world (1

Chronicles 29:15). Heaven and earth as now
known shall pass away (Matthew 24:35; 2
Peter 3:10). Once again, God declares the end
from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). It sounds
ludicrous but it shall come to pass just as the
Deluge (Matthew 24:36-39).

We live in a foreign land. Our citizenship is in

heaven (Philippians 3:20; Hebrews 12:23).
God declares the end from the beginning
(Isaiah 46:10). Many will find this declaration
ridiculous. But God speaks of the future way
ahead of time.

God has a purpose for each of us here on earth

(2 Corinthians 5:19-20; 1 Peter 2:9). David
served his purpose (Acts 13:36). The apostle
Paul served his purpose (Romans 1:1; Acts
9:15, Acts 22:21; 2 Timothy 4:7-8). Joseph
served his purpose (Genesis 50:19-20; Psalm
105:17).

God guides us into the purpose He has for us

(Jeremiah 29:11).
G O D G U I D E S
Jesus is our Guide. The Word is Jesus (John 1:1).
Before His first coming, the Law served as the guide
through the nation of Israel (Galatians 3:23-25). Jesus is
now our map and compass to navigate the ills of this world.
Jesus guides us to life and life more abundant (John 10:10).
He is our Prince of Peace; Jehovah Shalom (John 14:27;
Colossians 3:15). God guides us by His written Word.
When we follow His Guide, we have peace.
Peace in Christ comes from the assurance of God’s
protection and provisions (Luke 12:29-32, Philippians 4:6-
8). Keep our minds fixed on the love and faithfulness of God
(Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 12:1-2).
Since God did not spare even His only beloved Son but gave
Him up for us, how shall He not also together with Him
give us all things (Romans 8:32).
Hope arises when we judge God faithful. God is absolutely
faithful (Hebrews 12:1).

Satan provides his local guides. Their purpose is to steal, kill,

and destroy. The local guides are identified in Mark 4:13-
19. They are worries, cares, distractions of worldly pleasures,
deceitfulness of wealth, and the passionate desires for things
other than the Word.
7
THE WAR BEGINS
Genesis 4 marks the beginning of Satan’s quest to locate and
destroy the promised Messiah by exterminating the human
race.
The moment God announced the Seed, Satan waged war
against humankind (Revelation 12:17).

God declares the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10).

Satan imagined he could change his destiny by

exterminating the promised Seed. That is iniquity. Satan
took pride in his own meagre strength as superior to that of
God.
8
THE SIN DISEASE
Genesis Chapter 4 also put on record the manifestations of
the fallen nature. It recorded the satanic influence and
control over humanity.
Sin came into the world through Adam’s disobedience.
Death entered the world through sin and spread to all
people. Alas! No one could stop it or escape its power
(Romans 5:12-14). Sounds like an infection.
Sin is a disease.
For this reason, Jesus came to heal (Mark 2:17, Luke 5:31).
We can probably get a glimpse of what it means by the
COVID-19 pandemic at the time of writing this book. No
one could stop it or escape its power.
Where did the idea of medicine come from? Who provided
the knowledge of vaccines? The answer lies in James 1:5.
The field of medicine was God's idea. It was meant to
protect God's field so that it will seek the Great Physician
Himself (Matthew 13:38; Romans 2:4).
ENMITY UNFOLDED
Genesis 4:1-2 recorded the first mention of Adam’s
descendants; Cain and Abel. Adam had other descendants
too (Genesis 4:17; Genesis 5:4).
The concept of hostility or enmity between the Seed of Eve
and that of Satan was about to unfold (Genesis 3:15;
Matthew 13:38).
Abel means vanity or breath in Hebrew. In a nutshell, it
means life is short. And true to his name, Abel did not live
long. Abel alluded to the very temporal and transient life on
earth.
Cain was under the influence and control of Satan (John
8:44). Satan controlled Cain through negative emotions.
The emotionally charged Cain ended up killing his very
own brother (1 John 4:20).
This enmity culminated in Jesus' day. The religious leaders
handed Him over to be crucified out of jealousy, envy, and
resentment (Matthew 27:18; Mark 15:10; Galatians 5:19-
21). God used the enmity to fulfill His redemption plan.
JEALOUSY & ANGER
M A N I F E S T E D
The first mention of jealousy was over the acceptance of
salvation through the promised Seed.
Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground (results
of self-effort). Abel brought an animal offering which
pointed to Christ crucified, the promised Seed.

Satan was triggered. It was a reminder of his impending

defeat. He stirred Cain to murder his own brother, Abel.
The first recorded murder and physical death was inspired
by jealousy which festered into anger.
Those who practice jealousy, among other things, will not
inherit the Kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21). Practice
refers to a way of life. If jealousy becomes part and parcel of
life, it will fester into anger. Anger grows into rage. Rage
leads to murder.
Therefore, do not sin in anger as it will cause us shame
(Ephesians 4:26). God has regard for Abel's offering but not
Cain's (Genesis 4:4-5). Today, we measure a person's
offering by our own standards and decide for God whose
offering is to be respected (1 Samuel 16:7; Mark 12:41-44;
Luke 18:9-14; 1 Corinthians 4:4-5). Selah.
L Y I N G N A T U R E
M A N I F E S T E D

Then
the Lord said to Cain,
“Where is Abel your
brother?” And he
[lied and] said, “I do
not know. Am I my
brother’s keeper?”
Genesis 4:9 AMP

Satan lied to Eve in the Garden of Eden. This lying nature

manifested in Cain (Genesis 3:1, 4:9; John 8:44). We see
this manifestation even in Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
(Genesis 20:2, 26:9, 27:19).
T E M P T A T I O N
M A N I F E S T E D
Sin crouches at the door. It desires to overpower you but
you must master it. It alluded to temptation (Genesis 4:6-
7). Cain succumbed to temptation. So did David for a
quarter pound of flesh (2 Samuel 11:2-5).
What does the New Testament has to say about temptation?
Submit to the authority of God. Resist the devil and he will
flee from you (1 Peter 5:8-10; James 4:7).
God is love (1 John 4:8, 16). Love does no harm to its
neighbor (Romans 13:10). When we conduct ourselves in
love, we will not give in to the sinful desires of the flesh
(Galatians 5:16).

The devil will flee from us when we resist him. Yet, there is
one sin we MUST flee from; sexual sin.
This is because every other sin a person commits is outside
the body but the sexually immoral person sins against his
own body. And the body is the temple of the blessed Holy
Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:15-19; 2 Timothy 2:22).
FALLEN NATURE
ROTTED

Lamech killed a boy for merely

bruising him (Genesis 4:23-24).
It calls to mind the bruising of the
head and the heel as mentioned in
Genesis 3:15. The bruising
reminded Satan of God’s promise to
bruise his head. It triggered him to
cause Lamech to end the boy’s life.
It pointed to the ripening of the
fallen nature. This happened six
generations after Adam. The ripen
sinful nature rotted as evident from
Genesis 6. It became utterly
depraved.
Depravity starts in the mind. It
translates into action when it takes
root in the heart (Romans 1:24-27).
Sin controls the fallen human nature
(Romans 7:15-17).
L A C K O F
K N O W L E D G E
Before Moses, the Law was not yet given and sin was not
charged to anyone. However, sin was already causing
severe damages (Romans 5:13-14).
We were not aware of the sinfulness of our actions. We
were killing ourselves softly like a frog in boiling water.
Consequently, sin festered.
This is evident from Lamech’s killing of the boy for merely
bruising him (Genesis 4:23). Lamech did not regard the
murdering of the boy as wrong when compared to Cain's
unprovoked murder of Abel. On the contrary, he justified
his own action as self-defense (Genesis 4:24).
For this reason, God said that His people perish because of
the lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). The Amplified Bible
amplified the lack of knowledge to mean not knowing
God's will as revealed in the Law. The Law was designed to
lead men to Christ (Romans 3:20; 7:24-25; Galatians 3:24).
The New Testament interprets the Old Testament.
The Law was meant to expose the sinful nature and point us
to the need for a Saviour (Romans 7:7, 15, 24-25;
Galatians 3:24).
Self-medication is not the cure for terminal illness. We need
a doctor. Jesus is the Physician to cure us of the sin disease.
9
F A I T H
Cain named his son Enoch. It was an indication of his
repentance. Cain began to place his trust in God.
The name Enoch means "Teaching". It comes from the
Hebrew root ‫חנך‬ (hnk). It deals with the start of
discernment, which is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs
4:7).
From the root comes the verb ‫( חכה‬haka). It means to wait
for sustenance. The object of this verb is God the Creator.

In a nutshell, Cain accepted God's teaching to rely on Him

for sustenance. God set a mark on Cain. It alluded to the
indwelling Holy Spirit after the ascension of Christ. It
pointed forward to the Saviour.
When Cain recognized the severe consequences of his
crime, God offered protection. It was the goodness of God
that led Cain to repentance (Genesis 4:13-15; Romans 2:4).
In the thick of Cain's hideous sin, God offered salvation.
God gave up His beloved Son to die for our sins when we
did not even know we needed Him (Romans 5:8).
Trust God. Do not throw away the confidence in Him
because it has great rewards (Hebrews 10:34-35).
God is faithful (Hebrews 10:23; 12:1).

T H E C O V E N A N T
The rainbow covenant of Genesis 9:9-
17 pointed forward to the New
Covenant that would be ratified by the
precious blood of Jesus (Matthew
26:28).
The seven colours of the rainbow
carries the same imagery of the multi-
colored coat of Joseph (Genesis 37:3).
Both pointed to the favorable year of
the Lord when salvation and the favor
of God abound greatly (Luke 4:19).
God's covenants underscored His
commitment to follow through on the
redemption plan.
People of that day and age understood
commitment by covenants. God came
down to our level of understanding to
help us realize the extent of His
commitment.
T H E C A L L I N G

We see from Genesis 10 that God began to fulfill His

commitment by setting up the line of Shem from whence
the Promised Seed would come. From the inhabitants of the
earth, God called out a chosen people to keep the Light of
the Promised Messiah burning. This was done before the
great rebellion of Genesis 11.
11
T H E R E B E L L I O N
Genesis 11 recorded the rebellion of the human race. It was
preceded by God’s hidden message of salvation in the names
of the Messianic line of Seth as revealed in Chapter 12 of this
book.
Genesis 11:1 recorded one common language; that of
rebellion. Mankind was created to populate the earth but we
chose to settle in one location.
Where did I get the notion of the common language of
rebellion?
Genesis 1:28 – God’s command to populate earth.
Genesis 11:6 – God Himself put on record that it was an act
of rebellion.
Romans 11:32 – God imprisoned all in disobedience so that
He could show mercy to all.
Genesis 11:4 recorded our desire to be famous. We wanted
to make a famous name for ourselves. This is the very nature
of Satan to make himself like God (Isaiah 14:13-14).
There is only one Name that God wants us to know. God
wants us to know Him. He wants our love (Hosea 6:6,
Living Bible). Jesus came to reveal God’s Name as loving
Father (John 16:27, 17:6, 26). We were created to know the
Name of God as our loving Father (Ephesians 1:5;
Galatians 4:4-5).
C O N F U S I O N

Genesis 11:7 recorded the descending of the Holy Trinity

on earth to confuse the common language of rebellion.
This brings to mind the scene of Jesus’ water baptism where
the presence of the Holy Trinity was explicitly mentioned
(Matthew 3:16-17).

After Jesus was baptized, He came

up immediately out of the water;

and behold, the heavens were

opened, and he (John) saw the

Spirit of God descending as a

dove and lighting on Him (Jesus),

and behold, a voice from heaven

said, “This is My beloved Son, in

whom I am well-pleased and

delighted!”

Matthew 3:16-17, AMP

Jesus came to separate the believers from the unrepentant

(Matthew 3:12; Matthew 10:34). He came to confuse the
common language of unbelief.
SETTING THE STAGE
Genesis 11 ends with God setting the stage to fulfill His
commitment to follow through on the redemption plan.

In the midst of the rebellion, God set the stage for calling
out one individual to keep the light of the Saviour burning.
Terah left Ur of the Chaldeans for Canaan. He brought
Abram, Sarai (Abram’s wife), and Lot (Terah’s grandson)
with him. However, Terah settled in Haran instead.
Terah means dove. Haran means hill. Hence, the dove
settled on the hill. It brings to mind two events:
1.Noah’s Ark rested on Mount Ararat. The Ark represented
Jesus. Ararat means the curse reversed; and
2.Jesus, indwelt with the blessed Holy Spirit, was crucified
(John 19:16, 30).
Terah is a picture of Moses. He stopped short of entering
the promised Land just as Terah (Deuteronomy 1:37).
Abram alluded to Christ Who would lead believers into the
rest from the penalty of sin (John 19:30).
The judicial case of sin was put to rest by Christ crucified.
God named Abram Abraham (Genesis 17:5). And Abraham
is the spiritual father of faith in God (Romans 4:16).
GOD'S SIGNATURE MOVE
Satan usurped the throne of the world from Adam with
disobedience. It was disobedience that ushered in sin to rule
the world. With that disobedience, God showed mercy to
the world (Romans 11).
The Jews rejected Jesus the Tree of Life. Consequently,
salvation came to the Gentiles who were once disobedient.
This caused the Jews to be jealous when they realised what
they have forfeited and they too want the same salvation.
What Satan meant as harm, God used it for good (Romans
8:28).
Satan imagined he could exterminate the promised Seed
with the Cross. Unbeknownst to him, it was the Cross that
crushed his head.
This was the mystery of God’ wisdom (Genesis 3:15; 1
Corinthians 2:8; Colossians 2:15). The Haman vs
Mordecai saga as recorded in the Book of Esther alluded to
it. Haman plotted against Mordecai, the Jew. He convinced
the king to set up the gallows with the malicious intent to
execute Mordecai. God stepped in. He turned the table
against Haman who was beheaded with the same gallows he
meant for Mordecai.
Adam was blameless when he committed treason. God sent
His Innocent Son to be punished. A blameless man
committed the crime. So an Innocent Man must be
punished. Apple for apple so to speak. But the death of
God’s beloved Son was an overpayment. Where sin
increased, grace surpassed it (Romans 5:20; Hebrews 10:8-
14, 22).
The blood of Jesus paid for the crime we committed
through Adam as well as our own transgressions; past,
present and future in addition to redemption from the curse
of the Law and the cleansing of a guilty conscience.
12
T H E G O S P E L
M E S S A G E
The message of the Gospel was hidden in Genesis Chapters
3 to 11.
God used names of people and places, imageries, and
typology to hide the mystery of salvation.
1 Corinthians 2:8 states that none of the rulers of the world
understood God's wisdom in crucifying His beloved Son.
The evil spirits recognized Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of
God (Luke 4:41). However, they did not know that His
death and resurrection would crush Satan's head and thereby
save all humanity from the penalty of sin. If they had
known, they would not have crucified Jesus of Nazareth.
Such unconditional and self-sacrificial love are beyond the
comprehension of the diabolical forces.
ABEL'S OFFERING

God clothed Adam and Eve with tunics of animal skins

(Genesis 3:21). He has ordained the sacrifice of animals to
atone for sin. It pointed to the ultimate sacrifice of God the
Son in the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus Himself revealed
this in Hebrews 10:5.
Abel’s offerings of the finest firstborn of his flock and the fat
portions alluded to the perfect sacrifice of Jesus the Christ
(Hebrews 10:11-14).
Jesus the Christ is the only Source of salvation (Acts 4:12).
Cain’s offering opposed God’s way of salvation (Hebrews
10:26-29). It was a reference to an insult of the Spirit of
grace.
A B E L ' S B L O O D

Adam is a type of Christ but in reverse. Adam brought

destruction. Christ brought salvation (Romans 5:14).
Similarly, Abel is a type of Christ also in reverse. His blood
cries for vengeance. The blood of Jesus speaks mercy and
grace (Hebrews 12:22-24).
It is by grace through faith that we are saved. This salvation
is the gracious gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9).
SEAL OF THE SPIRIT

It is recorded in Genesis 4:15 that God placed a mark or

sign on Cain to protect him from death.
It was a reference to the indwelling Holy Spirit as the seal of
God's ownership and protection (Ephesians 1:13-14).
NAMES OF THE 1ST
7 GENERATIONS
The names of the first seven generations of the human race
were given in Genesis 4:17-22.

1 CAIN Acquired
2 ENOCH Teaching
3 IRAD City, Flee. Bear witness
4 MEHUJAEL Destroyed or smitten of God
5 METHUSHAEL Man or Servant of God
6 LAMECH Despairing
7 JABAL A conduit
JUBAL To carry
TUBAL-CAIN Government. God's justice
NAAMAH Sweet. Pleasant. Lovely
The word study was from Abarim Publications. I find this a
great resource. It not only traces the etymology of a word
but also provides different nuances of the meaning. More
importantly, it tells you how a Hebrew audience would
interpret the word. Since the Old Testament was written in
Hebrew, this is significant for a proper understanding of the
scriptures.
Can you spot the Gospel message? This is my take.
Get the teaching of fleeing to the smitten and despairing
Servant of God. He would be a conduit to carry out God's
justice as a sweet and pleasant aroma of sacrifice.

MESSIANIC LINE
The names of the Messianic line from Seth were provided in
Genesis 5:1-29.

1 ADAM Man (is)

2 SETH Appointed
3 ENOSH Mortal
4 KENAN Sorrow (but)
5 MAHALAEL The blessed God
6 JARED Shall come down
7 ENOCH Teaching
8 METHUSELAH His death shall bring
9 LAMECH (the) despairing
10 NOAH Comfort, rest

The Gospel message:

Man is appointed mortal sorrow but the blessed God shall

come down teaching that his death shall bring the
despairing rest.
THE MESSAGE OF
R E P E N T A N C E

Genesis 6:6 put on record that God repented of creating

mankind and He was grieved (Godly sorrow). Then
immediately thereafter in Genesis 7, the Deluge ensued with
eight human beings saved to enjoy a new beginning. It is
inconceivable that the omniscient God would regret
creating the human race. There is a hidden message here.

This is the hidden message: Repentance leads to salvation.

For [godly] sorrow that is in

accord with the will of God
produces a repentance without
regret, leading to salvation;
but worldly sorrow [the
hopeless sorrow of those who
do not believe] produces
death.

2 Corinthians 7:10 AMP

Repentance is essentially a change of mind; perspective. And

it is the goodness of God that leads to repentance (Romans
2:4, 10:17). The kindness of God was categorically
displayed through Christ crucified (Romans 5:8).
WATER OF THE
W O R D

Genesis Chapter 7 is a picture of God flooding the world

with the water of the Word (Ephesians 5:26).
The Word is Jesus (John 1:1).
Jesus is the Light of the world (John 8:12).

The Deluge was sent to give mankind a new beginning.

Eight people were saved and eight is the biblical number for
a new beginning. It is a number of hope, new horizons and
a bright future.
God sent His beloved Son not to condemn the world but to
save the world through rebirth in Christ Jesus (John 3:3,
17).
The rest of the unbelieving ancient world was not saved. It
pointed to the final indictment:

This is the basis for judgment:

The light came into the world,
and people loved darkness more
than the light, for their actions
are evil.

John 3:19, Common English Bible

N O A H ' S A R K

Noah’s Ark was a type of Christ in that all the creatures and
Noah's family entered and departed by the side of the Ark.
The only door of the Ark was set at its side (Genesis 6:16).
The only source of salvation is Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).

The new creation is born of the water and the Spirit (John
3:5). It is a picture of the Church; the Body of Christ. Every
believer is member of the Body (Romans 12:5; Colossians
1:18).
T H E R E S T

Genesis Chapter 8 is a picture of the rest that comes from

the completion of the redemption plan.
Genesis 8:4 recorded that the Ark rested on Mount Ararat.
The word “Ararat” mean “the curse reversed”. Jesus came to
reverse the destruction brought by Adam (Romans 5:14). It
is a picture of the victory cry of Jesus on the cross as
recorded in John 19:30:

"It is finished!"

Genesis 8:20-21 pointed to the efficacy of the perfect

sacrifice of Jesus to take away the sins of the world (John
1:29; Hebrews 10:11-14).
S H E M
MESSIANIC LINE
God embedded the salvation message in the new
beginning with the names of Shem and his descendants
(Genesis 11:10-26).

1 SHEM Name
2 ARPACHSHAD Healer
3 SHELAH Missionary (The Sent One)
4 EBER One from beyond. To pass over.
5 PELEG Division
6 REU Friend (Shepherd)
7 SERUG The branch
8 NAHOR Freeman. White (Righteousness)
9 TERAH Dove (Spirit)
10 ABRAM Exalted father
NAHOR Freeman. White (Righteousness)
HARAN Hill
THE HIDDEN MESSAGE
The Name refers to the promised Seed.
God the Father sent His beloved Son as the Healer (Mark
2:17; Luke 5:31).
He is the Sent One from heaven to divide between belief
and unbelief (John 6:29; John 6:38; John 16:28).
He is the Good Shepherd Who willingly laid down His life
for His sheep, the branches (John 10:11, 18; John 15:5).

He is the gift of righteousness from God to set us free from

the penalty of sin (John 8:36; Romans 3:20-26; Romans
5:17).
We receive the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit through
Him (John 3:3, 5).
Abram, Nahor, and Haran speak of 2 Corinthians 5:21.
God the Father punished the Innocent Man on the hill of
Golgotha to make sinners righteous.
THE APPOINTED NAME
SETH SHEM
Appointed Name
Before the Deluge, the Messianic line started with Seth.
Thereafter, it began with Shem.
We have Seth and we have Shem. Collectively, it alluded
to the Appointed Name.
The appointment of Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah is
proven by these scriptures.

She will give

birth to a Son
and you shall
name Him Jesus-
Matthew 1:21

I knew You
The promised before I formed Behold , My
Shiloh; The You in the Servant Whom I
Messiah, womb. I have have chosen-

Genesis 49:10 a Prophet to the
nations -
Jeremiah1:5
You have
prepared a body

Luke 9:35
THE ONLY NAME
The appointed Name brings to mind Acts 4:12.

And there is

salvation in no one

else; for there is no

people by which we

must be saved [for

God has provided

the world no

DEATH OF A SON

Cain Abel Seth

Abel was the second descendant to be named. He was killed
by his own brother (Genesis 4:1-2, 8)

Abram Nahor Haran

Haran was the first-born but he died before his time
(Genesis 11:26-28, AMP).

Jesus is the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. He was

handed over for crucifixion by His own (Matthew 27:18,
23; John 1:11).

Jesus is the firstborn of all creation. He is also the firstborn

from the dead (Colossians 1:15, 18).
Abel means a short life. Haran means hill. It refers to Jesus
dying young on the hill of Golgotha.

PRECEDED CREATION
Redemption preceded creation. Check out my book,
"Creation from the Lens of Redemption" at
http://bit.ly/redeemedkw.

God has put in place the redemption plan first before He

proceeded with creation.
In His omniscience, He already knew that mankind would
be fallen. The message of salvation was hidden in the names
mentioned in Genesis Chapter 5 before the corruption of
mankind was recorded in Genesis Chapter 6.
GOD LOVES SINNERS
Genesis 6:8
NOAH FOUND FAVOR OR
GRACE IN THE SIGHT OF
GOD

Genesis 6:8 is a definitive declaration: God loves sinners. It

is the crowning glory of Genesis 3 to 11.
Noah means “rest” in Hebrew. It refers to the salvation
wrought by Christ crucified (John 19:30).
It has always been God’s will to extend His gracious gift of
salvation through Christ crucified.
While the world was happy sinning, God sent His beloved
Son to die for its salvation (John 3:16, Romans 5:8).
In the midst of describing the utter depravity of the fallen
human race in Genesis 6, God revealed His deepest desire to
be gracious to sinners.
It pleased God to crush His beloved Son in order to save us
(Isaiah 53:10). And the beloved Son of God is our Good
Shepherd. He willingly laid down His life for us (John
10:11, 18).

I hope you have enjoyed the journey.

Redemption is screaming through every single page of the

Old Testament. What is presented in this book is but the tip
of the iceberg. May you crack open the Bible and unearth
more redemption truth for yourself.
In closing, may you pray this every day:

that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father

of glory, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and of

revelation [that gives you a deep and personal

and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of

Him [for we know the Father through the Son].

And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very

center and core of your being] may be

enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy

Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the

hope [the divine guarantee, the confident

expectation] to which He has called you, the

riches of His glorious inheritance in the [b]saints

(God’s people),

Ephesians 1:17-18
In my book "Creation from the Lens of
Redemption", the first two Chapters of the
Bible were expounded to reveal how God
had put in place the redemption plan before
He proceeded with creation.

In this book, we will unearth golden nuggets

of redemption truth from Genesis 3 to 11 to
see how God set in motion the salvation plan
following the Fall of Adam.

God declares the end from the beginning

(Isaiah 46:10). The mystery of the
redemption plan was hidden in the very early
chapters of the written Word.

Studying the Bible is an exciting adventure

of a treasure hunt of sorts.

The Bible is the map and Jesus, the compass.

Join me in this exhilarating experience of

searching out Jesus in the Old Testament. In
the process, I hope to whet your appetite for
