preface
Jesus said in Mathew 26:26-27,

“Take, eat; This is my Body. Drink from the

cup of wine.”

Taking
I aggressively take hold as my own what Jesus
has willingly died to give me; His health and
His very life. When the devil puts lying
symptoms of dis-ease (lack of comfort) in my
body, it is deception. Similarly, when life
seems like a dread, void of any meaning and
cripplingly empty, it is a sinister lie from the
old serpent.

Satan is trying to deceive me into giving up

what Jesus has given me. However, I assert
my right to Jesus’ health and life that He has
bestowed on me as a gift; the gift that was
bought by His precious Blood. No matter how
hard the evil one tries to intimidate me, I
vehemently refuse to back down from the gift
of life by standing on the Word of God via my
confession. I activate the power of God in my
life by giving my voice to His Word. This is
what is meant by taking.

It is my blood-bought right to be healthy and

alive! Not by the blood of goats and bulls but
the precious Blood of God the Son as Jesus of
Nazareth!

Eating the Bread
The idea behind eating is to sustain my
physique and mind by adding to them what is
being eaten. In this case, it is to add the
health of Jesus to my physique and mind.
Consequently, I have a robust body and a
sound mind.

To eat the bread (Jesus’ Body) is to call to

remembrance the health of Jesus Himself that
I already possess.

Take. Eat. Drink.| 03

Drinking the Wine
Jesus is my Good Shepherd Who willingly laid
down His life for me – John 10:11, 18. The life
of the flesh is in the blood – Leviticus 17:11.

To drink is to take it in; imbibe or absorb it

like nutrients. Drinking the wine (Jesus’
Blood) calls to remembrance the very life of
Jesus Himself that I already own. It is quality
living on this side of heaven independent of
my job title, social status and the size of my
bank account.

Abraham lived a long and satisfied life

(quality life) – Genesis 25:8. Yes, Abraham
was very wealthy – Genesis 13:2. I am
convinced that when I am ready to handle the
immense wealth instead of it handling me,
God will manifest that in my life. Meanwhile,
I am contended with what God has blessed
me with. I count my blessings and thank God
the Father for them.

Do Not Love the World
Do not love the world [of sin that opposes God and His
precepts], nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves
the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in
the world—the lust and sensual craving of the flesh and the lust
and longing of the eyes and the boastful pride of life
[pretentious confidence in one’s resources or in the stability of
earthly things]—these do not come from the Father, but are
from the world.
-1 John 2:15-16

You ask [God for something] and do not receive it, because you
ask [a]with wrong motives [out of selfishness or with an
unrighteous agenda], so that [when you get what you want] you
may spend it on your [hedonistic] desires.
-James 4:3

The unfolding pages take an in-depth look

into discerning the Lord’s Body as well as
partaking of the Holy Communion as a whole.

All scriptures are quoted from the Amplified

Bible unless otherwise stated.

the bread
The Lord’s Supper Instituted
My Lord Jesus instituted the Holy
Communion on the night He was betrayed.

Now as they were eating Jesus took bread, and after

blessing it, He broke it and gave it to the disciples,
and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
-Matthew 26:26

Take. Eat. Drink.| 06

Take
This is the Greek verb “lambanó”, Strong’s #2983. It
means to make it as one’s own in order to use it and
to not let it go.

It emphasizes the assertiveness of the receiver to

aggressively and actively receive what is offered. In
other words, the Body of Christ which was given for
my healing is mine. I take it! I enjoy and make full
use of it! I refuse to be intimidated by the devil into
shunning it. As categorically stated in Isaiah 53:5 and
1 Peter 2:24, I am healed by the STRIPE of Jesus

When Jesus was scourged before the crucifixion, His

body was so badly lacerated that the many stripes
became one huge open wound. In other words, He
was literally skinned alive! Every stroke of the whip
represented all kinds of diseases and sicknesses,
both known and unknown. They were all absorbed in
Jesus’ body and nailed to the Cross.

Take. Eat. Drink.| 07

Eat
This is the Greek verb “phago”, Strong’s #5315. The
idea behind it is to sustain my physique and mind by
adding to them what is being eaten. In this case, it is
to add the health of Jesus to my physique and mind.

Body
The word is the Greek noun “sóma”, Strong’s #4983.
It refers to the physical body as well as the Church
(the Body of Christ), figuratively.

I am called to discern the Lord’s Body in order to

partake of it worthily.

So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in
an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body
and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves
before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those
who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and
drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are
weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
-1 Corinthians 11:27-30 New International Version

Take. Eat. Drink.| 08

God the Father gave God the Son a physical body
(sóma) to be offered as a sacrifice for sin as Jesus the
Nazarene – Hebrews 10:5-7. That mortal body (sóma)
was not stained by the flesh (The Greek noun “Sarx”,
Strong’s #4561).

Sóma (body) should be distinguished from Sarx

(mortal flesh). The fallen state refers to the mortal
body that is controlled by physical needs and
desires; a.k.a. the flesh. It is inherently attracted to
what appeals to the physical senses.

When God made Jesus Who knew no sin to be my sin,

He also made Jesus carry my body (sarx) of sin on
the Cross to be crucified – Romans 8:3; 2
Corinthians 5:21. Hence, when I eat of Jesus’ Body, I
am also actively taking hold of His body that is dead
to sin – Romans 6:11; Galatians 5:24. This is how the
flesh (sarx) of sinful needs and desires that are in
my physical body (sóma) was subdued and
condemned in the body (sarx) of Jesus the Christ.
On the cross, Jesus became the sinner of sinners
while those who believe in Him becomes the
righteousness of God (examined by and approved of
God).

Super-Sub

And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to

them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of
the [new and better] covenant, which [ratifies the agreement
and] is being poured out for many [as a substitutionary
atonement] for the forgiveness of sins.
-Matthew 26:27-28

Jesus was the substitutionary atonement for my sins.

A divine exchange has taken place. In order words,
Jesus substituted me or took my place to die in the
flesh (sarx) on the Cross; the Just (Jesus) for the
unjust (me); the Innocent (Jesus) for the guilty (me) –
1 Peter 3:18.

Sarx died on the Cross

My flesh is dead! It died in and with Christ crucified.

For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are
[symbolically] proclaiming [the fact of] the Lord’s death until
He comes [again].
-1 Corinthians 11:26

Partaking of the Holy Communion is the power to

practically overcome sin; not just the sinful desires
but also the diseases and infirmities that come with
it. No wonder the early Church devoured the Holy
Communion; breaking bread daily from house to
house as recorded in Acts 2:46!

Take. Eat. Drink.| 10

The Law could not overcome sin and remove its
power and penalty. It was because the sarx of
humans is inclined to do the exact opposite of what
the Law dictates. Sarx was the root cause of the
failure of the Law. Therefore, God made His Son to
be the sarx so as to nail it to the Cross and render it
powerless - Romans 8:3-4.

Grace and truth came in the Person of Jesus – John

1:17. For this reason, sin shall not have dominion
over me because the sarx part of me has died in and
with Christ crucified (grace personified).

Given
The Body of Christ Jesus is a gift.

And when He had taken bread and given thanks, He broke it and
gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you;
do this in remembrance of Me.”
-Luke 22:19

This is the Greek verb “didómi”, Strong’s #1325. It

means, inter-alia, to:
1. Bestow a gift of one’s own accord; willingly; and
2. Give to someone as his own as an object of his
saving care; to care for his interests.

This brings to mind John 10:11, 18 and 1 Peter 5:6-7.

I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His
[own] life for the sheep.
- John 10:11

No one takes it away from Me, but I lay it down voluntarily. I am

authorized and have power to lay it down and to give it up, and
I am authorized and have power to take it back. This command I
have received from My Father.”
- John 10:18

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set

aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place
of honor in His service] at the appropriate time, casting all your
cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your
concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with
deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].
- 1 Peter 5:6-7

Jesus cares not just about me but He also takes care

of all my interests. Whatever bothers me, bothers
Him.

Main Course

the wine
The wine is symbolic of Jesus’ Blood.

And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He

gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for
this is My blood of the [new and better] covenant,
which [ratifies the agreement and] is being poured
out for many [as a substitutionary atonement] for the
forgiveness of sins.
-Matthew 26:27-28

Take. Eat. Drink.| 13

Drink
This is the Greek verb “pinó”, Strong’s #4095. It
carries the connotation of taking it in; imbibing or
absorbing it like nutrients.

Jesus is my Good Shepherd Who laid down His life

for me willingly – John 10:11, 18. The life of the flesh
is in the blood – Leviticus 17:11. By drinking the wine
which is symbolic of Jesus’ blood, I am absorbing as
nutrients His very life that is already in me.

Main Course

the victory
Who is the one who is victorious and
overcomes the world? It is the one who
believes and recognizes the fact that Jesus is
the Son of God – 1 John 5:5.

Take. Eat. Drink.| 15

The devil uses the Law to arouse the sarx in me to
sin against God. But thanks be to God the Father Who
made His Son to be my sarx so as to kill it on the
Cross.

Jesus Christ was put to death in the sarx – 1 Peter

3:18. With sarx out of the way by its death in and
with Christ Jesus, I am dead to sin and alive to God!

God the Father gave God the Son a sóma (mortal
body) to capture the sarx (flesh) so as to nail it to the
Cross. Christ crucified is the death of sarx; yours
and mine – 1 Peter 3:18, AMP. For this reason, we
are dead to sin and alive to God!

The devil exploits the Law to arouse the flesh (sarx)

in us to sin against God to our own detriment. Now
that sarx has been put to death in the sóma of Christ
Jesus on the Cross, sin shall have no dominion over
those who are in Him – Romans 6:14, AMP. Christ
has been put to death in the flesh (sarx) and the
death He died, He died to sin once and for all –
Romans 6:10, 1 Peter 3:18, AMP.

Partaking of the Holy Communion is the power to

practically overcome sin; not just the sinful desires
but also the diseases and infirmities that come with
it. No wonder the early Church devoured the Holy
Communion; breaking bread daily from house to
house as recorded in Acts 2:46!

This booklet takes an in-depth look into discerning

the Lord’s Body by distinguishing sóma from sarx as
well as partaking of the Holy Communion as a
whole.
