2001-2002 PATHFINDER LE STUCK IN 4WD LOW


APPLIED VEHICLES: 2001-2002 Pathfinder (R50) - LE Models with
All-Mode Transfer Case ONLY

SERVICE INFORMATION
The All-Mode Transfer Case may become stuck in 4WD Low if the transmission is not
placed in NEUTRAL before the transfer case range is switched from 4WD Low (as
specified in the vehicle’s Owner’s Manual).
If an All-Mode Transfer Case becomes stuck in 4WD Low, perform the Service Procedure
below before deciding whether or not repairs are needed.
There is a chart that contains the shift procedures. This chart is located on the driver’s side
sub-sun visor (see Figure 1) and also in the Starting and driving section of the vehicle
Owner’s Manual.

NOTE: There are also CAUTIONS concerning All-Mode Transfer Case switch operation.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Place the transmission in PARK and turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position.
2. Place the transfer case switch in 4WD Low position.
3. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position.
4. Place the transmission in NEUTRAL.
5. Move the transfer case switch out of 4WD Low and into 4WD High.

6. Place the transmission in DRIVE and drive the vehicle. The transfer case should no
longer be in 4WD Low. It should now be in 4WD High.
7. Move the transfer case switch from 4WD High, into Auto, and then into 2WD High
position.
8. Drive the vehicle again to confirm the transfer case is no longer in 4WD.
9. Advise the customer of the shift procedure chart.
