The man behind the name

Hello everyone. Today we are going to talk about Dyson’s company case: solving customer problems the
way they never imagined. In 1979 James Dyson purchased the most powerful vacuum cleaner on the
market but he noticed that it was anything but that. That’s why he came up with the idea to create a
decent vacuum cleaner. He thought that new technology in vacuum cleaners which separates dust from
the air was a good and improved idea. Dyson spent 15 years and made 5127 different versions of new
vacuum cleaners before he had the one that went to the market. After 5126 failures he found a solution
and created a bagless vacuum cleaner, with a three times faster motor than any other vacuum cleaner.

The Dyson method

Dyson is known for saying, “I like going for unglamorous products and making them a pleasure to use.”
He was the author of the developed version of the hand dryer which dries hands in 12 seconds instead of
40 and it uses cold air. But these hand dryers were too noisy, that’s why Dyson spent 7 years and 42
million dollars to develop and create the V4 motor, the smallest and quietest motor available. That
innovation helped to create a new faucet that washes and dries hands with a touch-free operation.
Dysons idea was that if we ask customers what are they expecting from some products tomorrow, their
answers will be boring and they won’t be able to think of something innovative and interesting. That’s
why he developed the James Dyson Award—the top prize at an annual contest that challenges college
students to design something that solves a problem.

The next big thing

It is true that Dyson is the author of many revolutionary products but three years ago the company
announced that it is going to enter the automotive business. They are planning to produce zero-
emission, all-electric, fully self-driving vehicles. For now, experts are critical and skeptical about the idea
and they think that for beginners, this goal is hardly achievable. But Dyson’s company have already made
several prototypes of new electronic cars and they are not planning to stop because at Dyson Ltd.,
innovation never ends. The company not only continues to demonstrate that it can come up with
winning products, again and again, but it is also expanding throughout the world at a rapid pace.

Based on Dyson’s past, predict the outcome of Dyson’s future in the automotive business.

Now let us talk about Dyson’s future in the automotive business. It is not really easy to make predictions
about Dyson’s future in that new business but I will try to justify my answer. We should take into account
that the automotive business and especially for beginners is always a great challenge and as we already
heard experts are critical and skeptical. But there are some reasons why I think that the company will
gain success in the new business. As we already know Dyson spent 15 year and create too many
prototypes of vacuum cleaner before he had the perfect one so as in the case of hand dryers. This make
me think that the when Dyson company has a goal, it is impossible not to achieve it. They have three
main feature which company needs for the success: the patience, knowledge, and funds to produce new
kinds of products. Maybe they won’t be able to do it on the first, second, or third try, but after enough
amount of attemption, they will surprise everyone again.
