MINERALS

THAT ARE FOUND

IN OUR
DAY TO DAY
LIVING

NAME: OLIVERAS, STEPHANIE V.

SECTION: ABM 11 B - APOLLO
SUBJECT: EARTH & LIFE SCIENCE
TEACHER: LORIBELLE B. ANCHETA
NAME: MANGANESE NAME:
IRON
CHARACTERISTICS:A hard, brittle, CHARACTERISTICS:Pure iron is a soft,
silvery metal. Manganese is too brittle to be of lustrous, dark silvery-gray metal.

factors, and sex hormones. also needs iron to make some hormones.

NAME: SELENIUM NAME: CALCIUM

CHARACTERISTICS:Selenium exists in CHARACTERISTICS:Calcium is reactive
several allotropic forms. The most stable, and, for a metal, soft.
selenium, is metallic gray. SIGNIFICANCE:Humans need calcium to

organism.
NAME: GRAPHITE
CHARACTERISTICS:Graphite is gray to black in
color, opaque with a metallic luster. It is a fairly
soft crystalline form of carbon with a Mohs
hardness of 1 to 2.
SIGNIFICANCE:In pencils and lubricants, graphite
is used.It is a strong heat and energy conductor. In
electrical devices such as electrodes, batteries,
and solar panels, its high conductivity makes it
useful.

NAME: LIGNITE
CHARACTERISTICS: Lignite, often referred to as
brown coal, is a soft brown combustible
sedimentary rock that is formed from naturally
compressed peat.
SIGNIFICANCE: -Lignite is the most important
domestic energy source and dominated electricity
production in Turkey for many years.
-Lignite helps to generate electricity and can be
found in plant fertilizer products.

NAME: PHOSPHORUS
CHARACTERISTICS:It is colorless and
transparent in its pure form. Phosphorus is
insoluble in water, but soluble in carbon disulfide.
SIGNIFICANCE: Every cell in our bodies uses
Phosphorus because it promotes growth and
energy. Phosphorus is also needed to help
balance and use other vitamins and minerals,
including vitamin D, iodine, magnesium, and zinc.
NAME: COPPER
CHARACTERISTICS: Copper is a mineral and an
element essential to our everyday lives. It is a
major industrial metal because of its high ductility,
malleability, thermal and electrical conductivity and
resistance to corrosion.
SIGNIFICANCE: Copper is an essential trace
mineral necessary for survival.

NAME: LITHIUM
CHARACTERISTICS: Between the most significant
properties of lithium we find its high specific heat
(calorific capacity), the huge temperature interval
in the liquid state, high termic conductivity, low
viscosity and very low density. Metallic lithium is
soluble in short chain aliphatic amines, like
etilamine.
SIGNIFICANCE: The most important use of lithium
is in rechargeable batteries for mobile phones,
laptops, digital cameras and electric vehicles.

NAME: NICKEL
CHARACTERISTICS: Nickel is silvery-white. hard,
malleable, and ductile metal. It is of the iron group
and it takes on a high polish. It is a fairly good
conductor of heat and electricity.
SIGNIFICANCE: Nickel has outstanding physical
and chemical properties, which make it essential
in hundreds of thousands of products.
