Summary with examples from the text:

Marley Dias has helped her community by starting a campaign called

#1000BlackGirlBooks on social media to collect diverse novels that feature African
American main characters. She started this campaign because she noticed a lock of
black representation in children’s books. In 1993, “74 out of 4,500 books” had African
American representation which is less than 2 percent. She has also written a book
called, “Marley Gets It Done and So Can You”, to help inspire other young
changemakers. She says that many kids have ideas however many don’t know how to
get started. She has found inspiration in other women who have challenged traditions.
For example, “Beyonce is a wonderful performer and is able to show her truth through
her art”. She has used them as inspiration to be a better version of herself. She believes
that it is important for people to share their passions to the world around them, just as
she has done.
