EASY ROUND (JUNIOR/INDIVIDUAL)

1. ACCOMMODATE – to provide room or a place to stay and sleep for (someone).


Ex. The cabin can accommodate 6-10 people.

2. AISLE – passage between sections of seats in a church.


Ex. She is walking down the aisle.

3. RHYTHM – a regular, repeated pattern of sounds or movements.


Ex. She enjoyed the rhythms of country life.

4. THOROUGH – being careful when doing something in an accurate or exact way.


Ex. The investigator will have to be thorough.

5. GAUGE – an instrument that is used for measuring something.


Ex. The amount of water in a rain gauge is approximately at 300 ml.

6. COLONEL – an officer of high rank in army, air force or marines; who’s above the
lieutenant colonel and below a brigadier general.

7. HEIGHT- is defined as the vertical distance from the top to the object's base.
Ex. The height of a tree is approximately 5 meter.

8. MORTGAGE – a legal agreement by which a bank or other creditor lends money at


interest in exchange for taking title of the debtor's property, with the condition that the
conveyance of title becomes void upon the payment of the debt.
Ex: "I put down a hundred thousand in cash and took out a mortgage for the rest"

9. PRONUNCIATION - is the way in which a word or a language is spoken.


Ex. What is the correct pronunciation of his name?

10. RECEIPT – a piece of paper on which the things that you buy or the services that you
pay for are listed with the total amount paid and the prices for each.
Ex. Keep your receipt in case you need to return anything.

AVERAGE LEVEL (JUNIOR/INDIVIDUAL)

1. FAHRENHEIT – denoting a scale of temperature on which water freezes at 32° and boils
at 212° under standard conditions.
Ex. "the temperature was steady at 65° Fahrenheit"

2. FLUORESCENT – emission by a substance that has absorbed light or other


electromagnetic radiation.
Ex. The map was marked with a thin, fluorescent-green line.
3. FAUX PAS – An embarrassing social mistake.
Ex. According to an oft-old story, the queen set a guest at ease about a faux pas by
politely imitating it.

4. HIATUS – a period of time when something is stopped


Ex. The band is making an album again after a five-year hiatus.

5. CUPBOARD – a piece of furniture used as storage that has doors and contains shelves.
Ex. The colonial dining room features a double-door corner cupboard.

6. MISCELLANEOUS – including many things of different kinds; synonymous to the words


‘heterogenous’ or ‘varied’.
Ex. The bottom of the drawer was always a miscellaneous accumulation of odds and
ends.

7. CHRYSANTHEMUM – a plant that has brightly colored flowers and that is often grown
in gardens .
Ex. Chrysanthemum is considered as an ornamental plant.

8. SUBTLE – having or showing skill at recognizing and understanding things that are not
obvious.
Ex. When it comes to giving criticism, sometimes it’s best to take a subtle approach.

9. MANNEQUIN – A figure shaped like a human body that is used for making or displaying
clothes.
Ex. Several mannequins posing for this year’s catalogue look especially emaciated.

10. VACUUM – an empty space in which there is no air or other gas present.
Ex. A pump was used to create a vacuum

DIFFICULT LEVEL (JUNIOR/INDIVIDUAL)

1. SCHIZOPHRENIA – a very serious mental illness in which someone cannot think or


behave normally and often experiences delusions.
Ex. She has a mental disorder called schizophrenia.

2. VIXEN – refers to an angry and unpleasant woman.


Ex. Why anyone puts up with that vixen’s sharp tongue is beyond me.

3. GNAT – any of many species of tiny flying insects in the dipterid suborder Nematocera.
Ex. He was bitten by a gnat.
4. SOLILOQUY - an act of speaking one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of
any hearers, especially by a character in a play.
Ex. "Edmund ends the scene as he had begun it, with a soliloquy"

5. RENDEZVOUS - a meeting at an agreed time and place, typically between two people.
Ex. "Edward turned up late for their rendezvous.

6. COLLOQUY – a formal conversation or conference.


Ex. They broke their colloquy off at once.

7. LIEUTENANT – a commissioned officer rank in the armed forces of many nations.


Ex. Gerald is the lieutenant of Class-Masindak Troupe.

8. PORTMANTEAU – a large suit case preferably for traveling purposes.


Ex. She carried her possessions with her in an old portmanteau.

9. ZUCCHINI – a smooth cylindrical usually dark green summer squash.

10. BOUGAINVILLEA - a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees belonging to
the four o' clock family, Nyctaginaceae.
Ex. Travis loves a flower called bougainvillea.

11. GNOMON – an object that by the position or length of its shadow serves as an indicator
especially of the hour of the day.
Ex. My friend knows how to measure time by using gnomon.

12. SUBPOENA – a written order that commands someone to appear in court under a
penalty for failure.
Ex. He received a subpoena to appear as a witness for the prosecution.

13. LASAGNA – a type of Italian food that has layers of flat noodles baked with a sauce
usually of tomatoes, cheese and meat.
Ex. She ate her favorite lasagna today.

14. FAÇADE – A way of behaving or appearing that gives other people a false idea of your
true feelings or situation.
Ex. They were trying to preserve the façade of a happy marriage.

15. MYRRH- a sticky brown substance that comes from trees, that has a sweet smell, and
that is used in products that give the air or people’s bodies a pleasing smell.
