CURRICULUM INFORMATION
AY2022/2023
Abstract
Students are required to read 2 third-year electives, plus 2 final-year design and 3 technical
elective courses to prepare them for the relevant specialized final year fields. A student’s
choice of courses is usually governed by several considerations, including intended career-
paths. All students are strongly advised to consult early and widely in their choice of courses.
In the third year, students are taught the basic principles, which underpin a broad spectrum of technologies covered by the area
of electrical and electronic engineering. In addition to Engineering Electromagnetics, students will select the required Major
Prescribed Electives (EE3xxx) from a list of more specialized courses in preparation for more in-depth specialization in their final
year.
Poly Direct-Entry Year 3 students are required to take up Professional Internship (PI) in Semester 1, as stated in their course
curriculum. This would allow students to have more internship opportunities, instead of competing with their Year 1 Entry peers.
The recommended third- and fourth-year curriculums for the respective groups of students are summarized below:
pg. 1
The EE3xxx pre-specialized Major Prescribed Elective Courses must be selected from the following list.
Students should note that the third-year Major Prescribed Elective courses are prerequisites to some final year design and technical elective
courses. Their choice should be guided by their intended choice of courses in their final year.
Students, who wish to select more than their required EE3xxx elective courses, may appeal to read them as Unrestricted Electives but only after
registering their required Prescribed Elective courses. Once registered, they will NOT be allowed to change their Prescribed Electives into
Unrestricted Electives, or vice-versa. Any additional electives undertaken by the students will be counted towards their Unrestricted Elective
Requirement and CGPA computation.
Final-year students are given more flexibility to select their elective courses to better suit their interest and inclinations. Students will not be
required to declare their final year option group before they start their final year studies. Instead, they have the option to either read their
final year courses in their preferred specialization or mix-and-match the Design and Technical Electives from other option groups.
