Congress passes a resolution that if British will give us full
Independence after the war and Transfer power Immediately then we
will support

March-1942:Cripps Mission
Stafford Cripps was the president of Board of Trade..

Background Points:
1)Proposal to seek support of Indians for the war..Britishers were
getting defeated in S-E aisa part by Japan..They wanted more man to
fight for which they wanted Indians..Also Japanese captured Burma and
were on the door steps of India..
2)Pressure on British wit Allied countries

When Cripps reached India he started talking with different Indian

leaders to find the best solution for India as well as to get support from
Indians

Concept:Nobody knew when war will end and Japanese were capturing
British colonies ,can anytime enter India

DOMINION:Transition state between a colony and a sovereign

country( Rajya ka Upnivesh sthithi se Sarvabhumik me jata hai is
beech jo satta ka transfer horha hai usko time ko dominion bolte
hain)
Congress gave British 1 year after nehru report submission for
Dominion status but after that they never accepted thus demand

Cripps Mission Proposals:Carrot

1)Indian Union with Dominion Status

2)After war C.A will be formed
3)British govt will accept the constitution that will be provided by CA
as final with CONDITIONS
4)Any province not willing to join the Union could have a separate
constitution and form a separate Union(Indirectly demand of
Pakistan was given consideration)
5) Defence of India will be in the hands of British and the powers of
Viceroy will remain intact(STICK with CARROT)
•Proposals given by Cripps Mission failed as Congress
rejected its proposals:-
1)We don’t want Dominion status
2)Rejected the Representation of States by Nominees(They demand
for elected)
3)Right of provinces to secede(Alag hona)
4)No immediate power transfer and Supreme power still with Viceroy
•Gandhiji said its a post dated cheque of a falling bank(Mai cheque
dedu aur bolu jab ye video 100crore log dekhlenge tb cash karlena)
•Muslim league also rejected as they din’t like the idea of Single
Indian Union(Two Nations they wanted)

Points: Congress—>No—->Dominion
Muslim League—>No—> Single Union
Hindu Mahasabha—>No—>Secede
Cripps:Failed and Went Back

Note:Aisa kaha jata hai ki British themselves dont wanted Cripps to

succeed in this Mission,Cz if he succeeded then he will be
remembered in History..
Britain PM Vincent Churchill,Viceroy lilinthgow,Commander in chief
Ward, dint allow him autonomy to work,everything Cripps had to ask
before taking any decision..
