Things to Remember (Grade Maximization tips !!!)

In a business educational institution, we all are stakeholders. I (as the service provider) & you (as the
service receiver or customer) have a great deal of responsibility in the delivery (co-production) of
education services to add value to the society. Any course offered by Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Hannan Mia,
Department of MIS, and DU has its own merits & adds value to the stakeholders. Being students, your
motto should be acclimatizing yourself into the organizational environment in such way so that you can
add value in your corporation. Certain things therefore are very important to remember. Note that
non-performance of all the following issues will not affect your grade points but it surely will affect your
long capabilities negatively & will make you less compatible for challenging & turbulent corporate world.
• Attend all the classes. Do not ask ‘did I miss anything’ after not attending the class. Do not ask ‘will I
miss anything important?’ before attending the class. Be attentive in the class & be responsible for any
announcements made in the class. Consecutive absence of three classes will automatically displace the
student’s right to continue the course with me.
• Each student must take part in all the scheduled exams, tests, and surprise exams. No makeup tests will
be conducted. Failure to attend the classes will minimize the chance of securing good grades. Final
Exam dates will be declared at least 7 days beforehand.
• For unavoidable circumstances, which might make students participation in the exam uncertain only for
the scheduled exams, students must inform the course teacher at least 1 day before exam & 4 days
before mid-term exams.
• Any materials provided in the class should get copied by the students. The hard copy must be returned to
your professor. Read the text properly. Questions may appear in any exam form texts & assigned topics. •
Carrying of books & scientific / financial calculator or other educational aid as required by the course is a
must for every student.
• There will be a comprehensive project paper for students on individual or group basis. In case of group,
each group shall consist maximum of 3 members. If the students themselves can’t come up with their
own groups, the professor’s opinion will be deemed final in this case.
• Do not attempt to turn in assignment or term paper submission and presentation date. They are not
acceptable. Failure of following the submission date will earn 20% reduced marks. The topic & rules
for such project paper will be discussed in detail in any classes.

Avoid pet peeves:

• Do not hesitate to ask me questions. It probably means several others have the same question. Do not ask
the question to your neighbor.
• Wearing hat (for boys & girls), brass let (for boys) in the classes will be considered as uncivilized. (There
are relatively very insignificant numbers of business situation where wearing hat during business
meeting in the office / board room is considered as acceptable behavior). Remember you are or going
to be an executive. Your today will define your tomorrow.
• Please do not go for side talks, exchanging letters or other ugly non-senses. We have no right to disturb
others in his/her effort to learn. Don’t talk while the professor is professing or while others were asked
to talk, as you don’t appreciate others talking while you are making a point to your professor.
• Do not ask ‘are we going to get early today’. I want your money to be paid off fully. • Do not come late
or leave early. Neither your fellow students nor I appreciate such disruption. You expect me on time & I
expect the same behavior from you unless or until previously intimated. • Be decent in your dress codes if
not formal.
• Switch off your mobile completely when you are entering the class.

Remember my aim to make you understand that you must get the value for what either you or the
government have paid. You must add value in yourself to be competitive in your search for an
accomplished future. Any student can come to me for solving any of his/her problems within the office
time mentioned earlier or by making an earlier appointment.

Note: Don’t be so concerned about grades! It’s neither my property nor my parent’s property. I will
help you to earn it. Even if I will trouble you with lot of work I am sure that it will yield dividend!!!

WISHING YOU ALL THE VERY BEST!!!
