SAMANTHA
who the fuck is this, tell me who this girl is Toby.

TOBY
She’s a friend from work, I added her off the work group chat.

SAMANTHA
oh yeah, why did you add her? do you want something more with her? is she
special? is she pretty?

TOBY
no, no please listen to me, I’m in love with you.

Cuts to a warning about the video

-This is for educational purposes-

INT- dark bedroom early morning

*silence
TOBY is sat on the bed with his head in his hands, the room is dark and silent nothing but a
plain bed, a song (WHERE IS MY MIND-PIXIES) starts to play in the background cutting to
the intro.
-THE UNSPOKEN- a story about Toby James.
MUSIC STOPS

TOBY wakes up and looks to left seeing SAMANTHA next to him, getting up he walks to
the kitchen and makes two cups of tea, the whole house is cold and dark, walking up the
stairs Toby looks completely drained and done with life. Samantha is awake doing her make
up on the dressing table. Shot is over the shoulder.

Int- bedroom early morning

TOBY
I made you a tea.

SAMANTHA
Thank you, two sugars right.

TOBY
Mhm.

SAMANTHA
What’s the matter? have I done something wrong.
 TOBY
Don’t you remember what happened last night, you accused me of cheating on
you with Beth, you went to bed pissed off at me and I didn’t know what to do.

SAMANTHA
Oh, for fuck sake, why did you have to bring it up? I’m over it. YOU
SHOULD BE TOO.

TOBY
Okay I’m sorry, remember this weekend we have people over for my birthday.

SAMANTHA
Yes, I do know that, if bloody Beth is coming I swear.

Interrupting Samantha he stops to comfort her, standing up off the bed he walks over to wear
she’s getting ready and hugs her from behind.

TOBY
I promise your all I want, I’m going to be home around 6 tonight.

SAMANTHA
Okay make sure your back on time I’m going to make you a special dinner
just for us two. I love you have a good day at work.

TOBY
I love you more.

Scene changes to SAMANTHA sat on the kitchen table with the table set for two people
candle lit and a clock clicking in the background. TOBY is late.

INT- kitchen night time 6:30

INT- TOBY standing outside the door looking at his phone with loads of missed calls from
SAMANTHA, really upset and depressed something has happened at work and he’s not
prepared to tell SAMANTHA. The room is dark and gloomy. TOBY enters the
Room.

TOBY enters room and sits down opposite to SAMANTHA, she stands up blows the candle
out and picks Toby’s dinner up.

SAMANTHA
Your late, dinners gone cold.

Toby is sat there timid and scared of what could happen. He tries to talk about what happened
at work. But he’s interrupted by SAMANTHA.

SAMANTHA
Why are you late? You were with that Beth again weren’t you.
 TOBY
No, I had a meeting with my boss, they, they have to let me go. Samantha I’ve
lost my job, I have been terrified to tell you as I don’t know how we would
live without my income.

Samantha’s anger is building up as she slams her hands down on the table. Standing up she
starts to come towards toby

SAMANTHA
This is all your fault, you have ruined my life, your so worthless to my life
now. Do you really think I want to be with you if you have no money?

TOBY is still sat on the end of the table, he has his heads in his hands sits up.

TOBY
Samantha please, I’m sorry. I love you really, I do. Please I’ll figure
something out. I promise.

SAMANTHA
(MOCKING) I’ll figure something out. Sure, you will. You always say this
and you never do. You’re nothing

Silence.

INT- living room night

TOBY is sat on the couch and SAMANTHA is on the phone laughing, they haven’t said a
word since dinner
SAMANTHA is really manipulative and won’t let TOBY go on his phone, or see his friends
without her being there.

SAMANTHA
You not talking to me now, your so stubborn, its ridiculous

TOBY
I’m just thinking
SAMANTHA
Thinking about what, your dumb stupid life.

TOBY is trying to keep his sadness in as he looks like he is about to cry. In the background
you can hear the statics on the news of men facing domestic abuse. The room is dark and
gloomy nothing but a singular lamp on in the corner.

The scenes are showing the sadness of what emotional abuse is like.

The silence is powering over them and Samantha starts to shout but toby just looks forward
and the audio blurs out along with the camera focussing on TOBY.

TOBY is so done with the emotional abuse of Samantha and cannot be bothered with how
she treats him anymore.

TOBY
PLEASE SAMANTHA, IM TRYING, I TRY EVERYDAY, ALL DAY.JUST
KNOWING I HAVE TO COME HOME TO YOU SHOUTING AT ME. IM
SO LONELY, I HAVE NO SOCIAL LIFE AT ALL.

SAMANTHA
DON’T YOU DARE SHOUT AT ME YOU HAVE TO BE JOKING, YOU
ARE WHO YOU ARE BECAUSE OF ME. YOU ARE NOTHING,
NOTHING.

(THE DOMESTIC ABUSE BEGINS) SAMANTHA gets up of the couch and starts getting
in his face screaming and shouting. THE LIGHTING GETS BDARKER AND DARKER.

TOBY gets up and starts to try leave but Samantha pushes him back on the couch and carries
on screaming

SAMANTHA
NOTHING TOBY. YOU ARE FUCKING RIDICULOUS.

THE CAMERA IS GETTING THROWN AROUND LOOKING LIKE TOBY IS GETTING
