 DISCONNECTED-SHORT FILM.

INT. LIVING ROOM - MID MORNING

Mr Tumbe is seen ironing a shirt while some instrumental
music is playing .he is wearing a trousers and a vest only.
After ironing he puts on the same shirt and he seems happy. (
camera does not capture the socket yet) he takes and packs

away the pressing iron. The young sister Tumelo enters and
sits in one of the sofas with her bible in the hands.
The power (adaptor)extension cable comes all the way from the
wall socket to the adaptor where his laptop, phone charger
and a Bluetooth speaker are connected.
he sits and begins to type chatting with a woman- Sandra on
the laptop WhatsApp while the music continues to play from
the blue tooth.
Shortly the Bluetooth speaker alerts him that it will shut
down due to low battery and it actually shuts down after 3
warning sounds. he is very surprised.
TUMBE
ahh ! what's going on? why battery
low when the charger is connected
to
it? Is it load shedding?
he looks up and realizes the light
bulb is on.
TUMBE (CONT'D)
mmm the light is on, but why is my
music shutting down? ehh.
Tumelo begins to laugh and walks to the socket on the wall.
TUMELO
Bro Bro...hehehe, when you finished
ironing your shirt, you forgot to
put back the adaptor cable into the
power socket. see, its is
disconnected!

TUMBE
oh i see. thank you my sister. Why
didn't i think of checking the
socket like you ah?
TUMELO
Bro its because, you are carried
away by trying to look good to
people, so, you just iron your
wrinkled shirt and forget the
things that matter most.
TUMBE
you are confusing me, what are you
talking about and what's really the
connection here?
TUMELO
Bro , when we were in church last
sabbath, I noticed that you were
concentrating on your
WhatsApp while the pastor was
preaching. do you even remember
what he was preaching on?
TUMBE
mm little sister, what has my being
on WhatsApp in church got to do
with the socket here? You can ask
your my wife about what the pastor
was preaching on, she is my helper
i cant remember ok.

MRS TUMBE
walks in from the bedroom and joins the conversation.

see, many people go to church all
the time but still come back home
empty. they are overtaken with
worldly matters, they
stay up late watching ungodly stuff
on TV or social media and when they
are in church, they doze off. when
its time to sing or read the
scriptures, to them its an
opportunity to check what's
trending online using their smart
phones or tablets while

Their hearts are slowly shutting
down like your music speaker. when
temptations come, they cant
overcome, the word of God is not in
them. they are disconnected. We
must
be attentive and study the word of
God all the time so that our
spirits
are fully charged and can go a long
way .So before you completely
switch
off, now is the time. reconnect
with
Jesus, let his power flow in your
heart again. pay attention to what
matters most. His word.
 
Tumelo switches the Bluetooth speaker on and it goes on.
TUMELO
Even if you are a pastor's child,
or child to very prayerful parents,
they are just like the light bulb ,
showing you the way of salvation.
but if you don't have the personal
connection with Christ , you are
about to shut down.
work out your salvation with fear
and trembling. Jesus is coming
soon.
TUMBE
Amen! I am seriously touched by
your words you guys. I have not
been serious with things of God
even though i go to church. Mmm.
His phone rings and the wife picks it and puts it on loud
speaker.

(voice on phone)
Sweetie, you left me on seen, yet i
can see you are still online.

INT. SANDRA'S BEDROOM

(on phone)
What's keeping you busy, am waiting
for you please hurry up.
TUMBE
Aaa, aaaah, sandra!
SANDRA

TUMBE
Look, am sorry. I will not come and
will never see you again. I have
gotten back to my senses. I am with
my wife and my little sister now we
are discussing things that matter
most. Spiritual matters. Please
don't call this line again. its
over.
SANDRA

MRS TUMBE

as the music begins to play and acknowledgments roll up, Mr.
Tumbe is seen following the wife to the bedroom.
