Message from the President and CEO, Jamaica Public Service Company

Limited

Emanuel
DaRosa

Since 2012, the JPS Foundation has been taking its place as a catalyst for the development of Jamaica’s
young people. We have been heartened to see their growth – both academically and personally – and
even more excited since the inception of our first Energy Clubs in 2014.

As the JPS Foundation members look forward to meaningful engagements with club members, I
encourage you to make the most of this opportunity. You are in one of the greatest seasons of your
life. You are absorbing impressive quantities of information, gaining skills to prepare you for adulthood,
and forming close friendships, some for a lifetime. Your involvement in the JPS Energy Club, will not
only be a great place to interact with your peers who have similar interests. It will also be a
great place of preparation for your career, inspiration for the future, and understanding the power and
management of energy.

This platform for the creative exchange of information, is our open invitation to you, to share
your innovative ideas about energy, benefit from the energy mentor assigned to your club, and develop
your leadership capabilities. We are aware, that as we interact with you, we may actually be meeting
with future engineers and other professionals who may one day serve alongside us as part of our JPS
family. On behalf of the JPS Energy Clubs, I welcome you to this exciting organization. The future awaits!
Programme Overview

The JPS Foundation Energy Club was conceptualised in 2014 as an offspring of the JPS
Foundation’s Summer Energy Camp held in July of the same year. The project began with fifteen (15)
schools across the island in an effort to increase awareness of energy issues and better build the
participants’ capacities to be responsible and informed energy users and possibly future workers in the
sector.

In 2017, the programme was revised and remained as a fifteen school project, however, some of the
schools discontinued the programme and new schools joined. The revised programme will help students
better understand issues in energy and inspire innovation and creativity in the fields of energy, science
and technology. There will be additional focus on environmental awareness and management through
innovative, technological and science based methods.

The JPS Foundation Energy Club Programme will help to:

EDUCATE: The Energy Clubs will EDUCATE students on theoretical and practical knowledge of
energy-related matters

CONNECT: The Energy Clubs will facilitate CONNECTIONS between club members and their
peers, communities, energy experts and national energy network (careers in energy).

INSPIRE: The Energy Clubs will INSPIRE behavioural change in energy consumption,
perspectives toward JPS and the energy sector while encouraging creativity and innovation in energy
solutions

DEVELOP: In addition to grooming student into being energy conscious and good environmental
Stewards, the Clubs will also facilitate the DEVELOPMENT of leadership capacities in students
