Purpose: For industry-academic-government persons to understand science

Symposium Host: INAMI and JICA

Venue: Big hall of the ministry or EMU in Maputo

Symposium Date: Wednesday, 18th December, 2019


(Site visit and Guiding investigation: Thursday, 19 th and Friday 20th December,
2019)

Target of Participants: industry-academic-government persons related this issue


including Mozambique and neighbor countries.

Symposium Agenda:
1. 08:30-08:40 Opening Remarks (by INAMI president) (tentative idea)
2. 08:40-09:15 Introduction of Background and KIZUNA (by Dr. Hosoi, JICA
Senior Advisor)
3. 09:15-09:45 Geochemistry and environmental impacts of mercury at small scale
gold mine in Mozambique (by Prof. Sato, Hokkaido University)
4. 09:45-10:15 Leaching of heavy metals including mercury from
hydrothermally altered rocks (by Prof. Igarashi, Hokkaido University)
5. 10:15-10:45 Japanese mine pollution history and Introduction of mercury
problem in Japan (by Dr. Hosoi, JICA Senior Advisor)

6. 10:45-11:00 Coffee Break


7. 11:00-11:30 Actual condition and problem of mercury at gold mine in
Mozambique (working title) (by Mr. Adriano Silvestre Senvano, General
Director, INAMI) (or Mr. Carlos Marove) (tentative idea)
8. 11:30-12:00 Introduction of field research results about mercury at gold mine
(working title) (by some researcher in Mozambique) (tentative idea)
9. 12:00-12:30 Q & A, and Discussion

Schedule;
Thursday, 19th December: From Maputo to Field, Inspection and advice
Friday 20th December: Inspection and advice, From Field to Maputo
Site (field);
Typical field should be selected by INAMI.
Participants:
Only selected applicant organized by INAMI; all cost should be covered by
individually themselves.

19th November (Sat) Depart from Japan, 20th (Sunday) arrive at Maputo, Mozambique


21th (Monday) Meeting with JICA, INAMI and related organization. Preparation for
Symposium.
22nd (Tuesday) Symposium(in case of, after symposium, move from Maputo to mine site town ?
It depends on mine site location and schedule.)
23rd (Wednesday) Move from Maputo to Mine site, visiting mine, stay at mine site town
24th (Thursday) Move from mine town to Maputo. Visit INAMI Laboratory and UEM (It
depends on time allowance.)
25th (Friday) Lap-up Meeting with INAMI and JICA, visit UEM, Embassy of Japan etc.
26th (Saturday) Depart from Maputo, Mozambique
27th (Sunday) Arrive at Japan
