141(BALIKESİR), 142 (ÇANAKKALE), 145 (KÜTAHYA) ROAD

PROJECT
BALIKESİR, ÇANAKKALE, KÜTAHYA, MARMARA, TURKEY
Simple Drapery

Problem
Client: KGM 14. BÖLGE MÜD.
The 141 (Balıkesir), 142 (Çanakkale), 145 (Kütahya) Road Designer / Consultant: MACCAFERRI TURKEY
Project in the 14th Regional Directorate of Highways, under Contractor: Ceta İnşaat San. ve Tic. A.Ş.
the responsibility of Ceta İnşaat San. ve Tic. A.Ş., contained Products used (Qty.)
several areas with rockfall problems. From a total surface - Steelgrid 41.000 m^2
area of approximately 41,000 m² small to medium sized
Date of construction: 09/2016 - 03/2017
rocks were detaching from the slope creating safety
problems on the existing road. Rock materials were
loosening from the surface due to the atmospheric influence
and were rolling/falling on the road. This situation negatively
impacted road safety and protection measures were found
neccessary.
As a consequence of the above mentioned rockfall problems
our technical team visited the project site and established
protection design measures taking into account important
site properties and previous rockfall events.

Solution

As a result of the geotechnical calculations the installation of

wire mesh with a tensile strength of 50 kN/m was seen
sufficient for holding the small to medium sized rock
materials in their place and preventing them from falling on
the road. The constant contact between mesh and slope was
secured by 0.7m long anchorages installed in a 5x5m
pattern.
