Pedagogy Planning
Activity
1. Once students are all seated, introduce the assignment by stating, “Today you will be writing
your own fictional story. You will be using a super fun website called ‘StoryJumper’.”
2. Once logged into the computer, share the screen on the board
3. Use the link below to display my example on the board for the students to see.
4. Go through and read the example story I created.
5. Open a new tab and search, “StoryJumper”. Once opened, walked students through the
process of creating their own account and the steps in using this website to write their own
story. Show them how to use the text tool on the lefthand side to type their story and how to
use the image tool on the left-hand side to find pictures or props for their story. Inform and
show them that they can even create their own characters from scratch. Also, show them how
they can also use the voice icon on the lefthand side to incorporate their voice in their story if
they would like. Make it clear that they should not spend too much time on pictures and focus
on their story writing. Show them what to do once they believe they are finished writing their
story by using the “Save and Finish” bottom in the top right corner of the page. They can
preview their story here and share it with teachers or their parents if they would like.
6. Instruct students to take out their laptops, login, and go to the StoryJumper website.
7. Students should write a fictional story about any topic they would like and should focus on
using complete sentences, capitalizing proper nouns, and incorporating commas, verbs, and
adjectives.
8. As students work on writing their story, walk around to assist any students that need help or
to answer any questions they may have. Student should have about an hour of class time to
complete this unless more time is needed.
9. The students will embed their story into a discussion post so I can view them, and other
students can read each other’s stories if they would like. If students have trouble embedding,
go around and help each student do this. They can copy the embed link on StoryJumper and
use the embed option on the discussion post to paste their embed link.
