In this study, the researchers used random sampling to randomly pick the 60

respondents for their study. They used Slovin’s formula to solve for the sample size

they needed. The researchers used survey questionnaires and likert scale to determine

the relationship between skipping breakfast and academic performance. Based on the

result of their study, 93.5% of the respondents say that they perform well in school if

they have eaten their breakfast. 43.34% of the sample size skips breakfast on daily

basis. The respondents skipped meals to arrive early at school. 33.20% of the

respondents said that they cannot focus in school if they skipped breakfast. 66.6% of

the respondents said that they cannot easily understand their lessons if they skipped

breakfast. With this huge percentage, the effects of skipping breakfast in academic

performance brings significant negativity towards their performance.

Based on this study, it was found that skipping breakfast and academic performance

of the students has negative correlation. It means that the more frequent they skip

breakfast, the less they will likely perform in academics. The researchers

used stratified random sampling to randomly select 100 respondents to test the

correlation between skipping breakfast and academic performance. The effects of

skipping breakfast based on the conducted survey were (1) the respondents become

easily tired in doing task and (2) the respondents cannot remember easily about their

lectures. It greatly shows that skipping breakfast brings significant negativity in terms
of physical and mental aspect of the students. Additionally, another reason why

students skip breakfast is because of heavy load of school works. They tend to sleep

late at night to finish the required school works that need to be passed in given

specific deadline.

According to an article, "National Nutrition Council" written by Ayesa Gay A.

Bejerano(2022). People who eat breakfast on a regular basis are less likely to be

overweight or obese because it helps to control your appetite by preventing large

fluctuations in blood glucose levels. Breakfast also fills you up before you get hungry,

so you're less likely to grab whatever foods are nearby when hunger strikes (for

example high energy, high fat foods with added sugars or salt).

As mentioned by Rappler(2019) Feeling a little sluggish? You know it. It’s because

you skipped your breakfast. It’s been proven that skipping breakfast has a direct

impact on mental performance. Since your brain runs on glucose, it’s important to

nourish it with the right amount of carbohydrates in the morning to maximize your

mental focus and memory.
