Assignment #1

1. In your own words, what is the difference between assessment and evaluation?

Although assessment and evaluation are both evidence-driven and use to measure a student, they have
different ways to do things. We can list their differences and compare them separately. First, the
purpose of assessment is to give feedback while evaluation is to judge the quality of an output or
performance. Their major difference is assessment is ongoing as it wants to improve learners overtime
but evaluation is specific on a activity or one thing only as it wants the final quality and so the learners’
chance to grow can be hindered. For me it is better to use the assessment as learners is dealing with
themselves and they’re not exposed to any pressure as evaluation is making distinction between worse
and better.

2. Definition of test, non-test, testing, measurement, assessment, and evaluation.

Test is an instrument used by teachers to accumulate data on student’s ability or mastery of a specific
topic or task. Testing is the term if you use test in your technique to obtain one’s information while non-
testing is when you’re not using test in your technique. Examples of non-testing are personality test and
achievement test. Additionally, measurement is the term when you use assessment and other
techniques to analyze data. Measurement takes the information in numerical form. Assessment, as my
answer in number 1, is the gathering, interpreting, and acting to the data related to the students’
learning and experience. It is on-going and helps students to improve in a long run and gives students to
evaluate themselves. On the other hand, evaluation is looking to the end of an activity, the grade, or
performance of overall. Evaluation sees if the goals are being achieved and judge them by grading.

3. What are the types of assessment? Give an example of each types of assessment.

For my answer here, I will have a table that gives the types of assessment, my own simple definition of
them, and examples of each assessment stated. This will satisfy the given question in number 3.
