🎯 Concord is an agreement between the subject of a sentence and the verb that follows.

🎯 RULES OF CONCORD

🚨 RULE 1
Where the subject is singular, the agreeing verb should be singular.

Singular subject— Singular verb

Examples
Tolu comes here everyday

Abu teaches in that school

🚨 RULE 3
COORDINATE CONCORD
Where two or more subjects are connected by ‘and’ conjunction, the verb should be plural.

Examples

📌Janet, Ekaitte and Shola are present.

📌The principal and the teachers are having a meeting


RULE 4

EITHER – OR /NEITHER – NOR CONCORD


When two subjects are connected by ways of ’either or’ , or ’neither nor’, the verb to follow must agree
in number and tense with the second subject that is closer to the verb.

Examples

📌 Neither Chioma nor Musa was at home when Idris arrived.

📌 Either Mabel or her cousins deserve to be given a prize.

COORDINATED-SUBJECT CONCORD
Where two subjects connected by ‘ and ‘ and does refer to the same person, the verb to be used should
be singular.

📌 The chairman and guest of honour of today is present.
