Freeze and
Unfreeze Rows
and Columns
FREEZING PANES
1. In Projects Grades.xlsx click Cell C6.
2. In the Window group of the View tab, click Freeze Panes.
There you will see three options for freezing parts of your
worksheet namely: Freeze Panes, Freeze Top Row and
Freeze First Column.
3. Click Freeze Panes.
4. Now try to move the vertical and horizontal scroll bars to
see the effect.
5. Save the changes.
To unfreeze Panes

1. Select the Window group of the View tab and click Freeze
Panes.
2. Click Unfreeze Panes.
Splitting
Worksheets
SPLITTING WORKSHEETS
• To split a worksheet, follow the steps below:
1. Select the row or column where you want to split the
window.
2. Click the Split button located inside the Window group of the
View tab.

• To remove a split window do the steps below:


1. Select the row or column where you want to split the window.
2. Click the Remove Split button located inside the Window group of
View tab.
Hands-on Exercise Splitting Panes
1. Open Projects Grades.xlsx
2. Click the Split button located inside the Window group of
the View tab.
3. Click on the intersection of the bars and then drag it to
move the split bars to the center.
4. Double click the vertical split bar to remove it.
5. Remove the horizontal split by double-clicking the bar.
6. Save the changes.
Sorting and
Filtering Data
Sorting Data

1. Using the Sort Buttons


In the event that you only want to sort one
column on your worksheet, you may use the Sort
buttons located inside the Sort and Filter group
under the Data tab.
There are two easy ways of sorting data in Excel,
using the Sort button in the Sort dialog box.

There are two easy ways of sorting data in Excel,
using the Sort button in the Sort dialog box.
Keyboard Shortcuts:

1. Alt+A+A = This shortcut sorts data in ascending


order.
2. Alt+A+D = This shortcut sorts data in descending
order.
3. Alt+A+S = This shortcut activates the Sort dialog
box.
Filtering data
To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Highlight the cells where you want to filter the data.


2. Click on the filter button located in the Sort and Filter group of the
Data tab.
3. A dropdown arrow will be seen in each category. Click the arrow in
the location column header.
4. Uncheck all and select American by ticking on the box. You will see
that American is selected since it has a check mark on it.
Keyboard Shortcuts:

1. Alt+A+T – This shortcut applies filtering on


the selected data.
2. Alt+A+C - This clears the filter and sort state
of the selected data.
Outlining and
Grouping Data
To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Select first the data that will be grouped.


2. Click the Group button from the Outline Group of the
Data tab or you can also press Alt+A+ G on the keyboard.
3. Select whether you want to group it as a row or as a
column by clicking the appropriate radio button.
4. Click the OK button.
To ungroup data, follow the steps below:

1. Click the Ungroup button from the Outline group of


the Data tab.
2. Click the Ok button.
