What is a Press Release?

A press release is an official statement delivered to members of the news media for the
purpose of providing information, creating an official statement, or making an announcement
directed for public release.

Handover Ceremony of Air Force “Kanpur-1 Aircraft” at PEC

The Aeronautical Engineering Division of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be

University) Chandigarh today hosted the handover ceremony of Air Force “Kanpur-1 Aircraft”.
This single-engine rare machine designed and built by late Air Vice Marshal Harjinder Singh
VSM 1, MBE in 1958 will be displayed at the IAF Heritage Centre that is being set up at Sector
18, Chandigarh.

The event started with Prof Baldev Setia, Director PEC extending a warm welcome to all the
esteemed guests.

The Kanpur-1 Aircraft, was handed over by Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC to Air Marshal R
Radhish AVSM VM, SASO, HQ Western Air Command at the Aeronautical Engineering
Division of PEC, Chandigarh. Kanpur-1 Aircraft is said to be gifted to PEC by AVM Harjinder
Singh in the year 1967 and shares a strong bond with aviation heritage. This vintage queen
aircraft, will be displayed along with other aircraft in IAF Heritage Centre, Chandigarh. The Air
Marshal highlighted that having this aircraft in IAF Heritage Centre will not only hold heritage
values, it will also build a strong relationship between Punjab Engineering College and Indian
Air Force.

Participants are requested to write a press release on the Air Show organised in Chandigarh
in October 2022.

Rules:
● Theme of the press release – Air Show organised in Chandigarh in October 2022
● Word limit - approximately 250 words
● The press release must contain
○ An appropriate headline
○ The written content describing the events of the day
○ Photographs to complement the text (maximum 2 photographs allowed)
● Considerable weightage will be allocated to all the components – the headline, content
and photographs - during evaluation
● Use of the internet is allowed to gather information and photographs related to the
event but any form of plagiarism will attract negative marking. Participants are
encouraged to demonstrate their writing skills by presenting the collated data in the
most unique possible manner.
